Basically, I'm trying to enter data from surveymonkey, but there are too many columns to fit into 1 sheet, so surveymonkey splits it into 2. Obviously, this is no good as it splits all my data into two, and there are no more columns left to paster it together.

Ultimately, I'm only doing this to format the data before exporting it to SPSS - don't know whether this might help you give me an answer?

Any support much appreciated!!!!

THANK YOU!!

There is a limit on the number of columns you can have in an Excel Spreadsheet. Once you have used all the columns (or all the rows) there is no way to add more.

The column limit in excel is 255. If you're exceeding this, I would look into transposing the data, so that what normally would be columns gets put into rows, and normal rows get put into columns. You can do this with the 'paste special' option.

Excel is not a database...it is to make spreadsheets. So, you need to move this over to Access. Access makes it easy to import Excel. There will be a little learning curve with it, but Access is easy to use and widely supported. You'll also find after you've learned it, that there is many powerful ways to manipulate the data. Bottom line: you need to move it out of Excel. Large Excel spreadsheets corrupt easily. You stand a good chance of losing your data.

If you didn't pay the bucks to Micro$oft for Access, consider downloading the Micro$oft SQL Desktop Express Edition. It is free. There is a bigger learning curve with it, but it is fairly powerful for a free product. Another free product is MySQL.

Get Excel 2007, the spreadsheet is much much larger than the older versions. Although it may not be worth the expense if you only need Excel to do some exporting.

Consider interchanging rows and columns. Excel will happily support many rows.

You can have more rows than columns. Can you reorient the data to switch rows and columns?
