Why can't they live and let live, realising that everyone is entitled to their religious beliefs?

why are you all talking about jim jones and so on? you're avoiding the real question; i.e. why do people hate Mormon, JWs, Scientologists, etc.

Hi it seems that as soon as the word CULT is mentioned people tend to think of devil worshipping and black magic and rituals etc etc. People always fear what they dont understand

The major difference between a real cult and a religion (or religion want to be) is that a cult tends to demand ultimate loyalty and will stop at no means to keep it's members, i.e. they employ brainwashing, extreme pressure and may make demands of total sacrifice (often to the leaders benefit) or when threatened, suicide.
These are some of the dangers of a real cult.

Amen. They should also buy a dictionary before calling Christianity a cult and calling me a lemming.
It's freedom of religion. I don't have a problem with other people not believing in God, and I can't figure out why some people have such a problem that I do believe in him.
Real cults however can be dangerous. I think they're entitled to religious freedom until it crosses the line and hurts others or takes away someone else's freedom. That's going too far, and that's when we're entitled to speak up.

It may just be that they want to learn something. Also maybe they have survived a cult and want people's views. Some of my family are from where Jim Jones started his cult and its always interesting to know how people that were in that time felt...its nothing to do with being paraniod

Well, when you consider Jonestown, Ruby Ridge, David Koresh.......it seems pretty understandable that people would have some pretty negative feelings about so called "cults".

Those "so called" false cults result in murder and rape and lots of people spending forever in hell.
So we are not paranoid, we have a real bona fide concern.
Perhaps you are not old enough to remember Jim Jones, but I am.
