Some bike themed tunes:

The Acoustic Motorbike- Luka Bloom
Bicycle Race- Queen
Bike- Pink Floyd

Good songs for a ride- these are from my techno section...
Galvanize- Chemical Brothers
Sandstorm- Da Rude
Silver Screen Shower Scene- Felix da Housecat
Missile Test (Club Mix) - Menace & Adam
Voyager- Daft Punk
Little L- Jamiroquai

Oh..and if you can find "Zion" by Fluke- that's a good one too- it's not on Itunes- it comes from the 2nd Matrix soundtrack...

ditto the above, if a honda civic can blast lil john at 100+ db i can rock a little flogging molly out of my messenger bag. i used to ride with big can style headphone around my neck. the speakers were big enoughf that i could hear the music but not on my ears so the music took a back seat to the necessary road noise. how ever you do it head phones or ear buds are a no no. dont do it. other wise rock the eff out. if you are a roadie find some thing that has a bpm simmilar to your preffered cadence ore some multiple or 2x factor there of.

Personally, I use hard rock or slightly softer rock/pop for my training tunes. There's an occasional classical or old-style jazz tune in there as well. Sample artists and songs are given below:
Def Leppard (Armageddon It, Let's Get Rocked, Rock Rock Til You Drop)
ZZ Top (Legs, Sharp Dressed Man)
Jimmy Barnes (Drivin' Wheels, Seven More Days, Do or Die)
Great Big Sea (Old Polina, The Chemical Workers' Song, The Old Black Rum, Ordinary Day, Mari-Mac)

Count Basie (Stompin' at the Savoy)
Wagner (Ride of the Valkries, Hall of the Dwarves)

Note that these are TRAINING tunes, which means I'm off the road and onthe trainer! And they are being played on a handy boom-box, not a set of earbuds! No earphones while riding outside (road or trail) ... just not safe enough, given traffic and everything else that could be going on around you.

If you have an ipod, there is a speaker you can get that plugs into the data port on the bottom of the ipod. 2 speakers w/ independent volume control. I have a messenger bag w/ a cell phone holder strapped on to it, I put the ipod in the holder, velcro it up and I can listen to music and still hear traffic and people yelling and everything else. I highly recommend it.

Oh, and as far as music? Punk.

RUBBISH ANSWER ALERT!!!!!!

Whats all this tosh about needing ears to balance and cant hear the traffic etc.

On that basis, car radios should be banned!!!!!!!!!!!

And people with iPods would Stagger about and fall down!!!

Earphones or not, any experienced cyclist will tell you that you have to remain alert anyway.

lol. Bike by Pink Floyd would send you into insanity, NOT motivate you to ride faster.

I hope your intelligent enough to ignore those rubbish answers.

As for music, I could rabbit on for ages, but stick to upbeat Techno or Indie.

Hope this helps mate.

None. You should be using your ears to listen for traffic if on the road, or other people if you are in traffic. In many states in the US it is illegal to wear earphones while cycling. On the other hand, if you are on your trainer indoors, I like something with a lot of rhythm. But musical likes and dislikes are very subjective. Go with what you like. It should be something that allows you to develop a constant rhythm in your pedaling and also fits what you are trying to do (e.g., hills, sprints, tempo, etc.)

I find AC/DC the best to work out to - "Back in Black," "Shake a Leg," "TNT," "Highway to Hell," are some good ones.

Also Jethro Tull's "Beltane" and "Locomotive Breath."

How about "Crazy Train" or "Flying High Again" by Ozzy/Sabbath.
