first we have to analyze both options:
a) without the sun, there would be no life on this planet. Period. That means, if/when the sun explodes, it will be apocalypse to all of us, and the rest of the solar system.
b) without the christian religion, or the myth, 33% of the world's population would go mad, and catastrophes would occur. It would be a calamity, because those 2.1 billion christian-related religious people would feel lost.
Now, with that said, i believe:
1- The sun is more important because it sustains not only the whole planet but the solar system's life on this galaxy.
2- Most then "ex-christians" would find another god, or would turn into humanism for good.
3- If the sun dissapeared, all of us, christians and not christians would dissapear as well, so religion would be of no use anymore.

When you die, there is no sun where you are going. Think about it, no sun.
I don't need to tell you how important the sun is to our survival, you know.
The sun is a created light, artificial so to speak from God's perspective, it is one light God made for a purpose here for us. Take it away and horror and pain will come and who knows what else?
But here is the good news...Jesus said I am the Light of the world. He that follows after me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life.
The only Light that is forever is Christ and this is what we should choose since there will be no sun in death.

God is the creator and sustainer of life. Banish him and everything ceases, even the universe.
BTW - the Sun will not last forever.

Son of God, because He created the sun, and can do what He will with it. He will always take care of His own. Let His will be done.

Surely you don't think the sun will last forever, when other stars are burning out? Maybe you're saying that it will outlast you, the few years that you have remaining? But, it Won't if you accept life from the eternal Life Giver, the creator who actually loves you!

Jesus called himself the son of man. Look it up. So that would mean the sun is more important. You didn't ask about God.
Blessed Be

More precisely, God the Father; after all He created us.
The Lord bless thee, and keep thee: The Lord make his face shine upon thee and be gracious unto thee: The Lord lift up his countenance upon thee and give thee peace. (Numbers 6:24-26 KJV).
