I believe puggles are small dogs... so a good small dog puppy food would be best.

He will be weaned and eating solid food before you get him

STAY AWAY from Old Roy.

First of all, check that he will be completely weaned and started on dry food when you get him. Use the food that the breeder gives you at first to help switch him onto another brand. (Suddenly switching brands with no transition can cause digestive problems for a while.) When you switch to your new brand (if you want to switch), start mixing the two brands, using only a little of the new stuff at first, and then adding more and more of the new, and use less and less of the old. Do this over a period of about a week, and he should do fine on the new brand.
I use Eukanuba brand for my dogs. It's pricey, but it's a great brand. Make sure you use mostly dry dog food. It's better for their teeth and gums than an all wet food diet. Kepe him on puppy food until he's about a year old, and then transition to adult food.
Another tip, check to see how his teeth are coming in when you get him. If he still has some teeth coming in, mix the dry food with a little canned food, or get it slightly moist with warm water. This will soften it up for him, and make it easier for him to eat until all his teeth are in.
You may have to look around for a food that suits your dog. Ask your vet, and ask the breeder, or do some research online about different brands. The good quality brands are going to cost more than your "Wal-Mart" brands, but they are much better for the puppy's overall health.

Hopefully your puppy will be at least 6-8 weeks old when you get him. By that time, the owner of the mother should have introduced puppy food to the puppy.

My father is a dog breeder/trainer/hunter. He always introduced puppy food with a little warm milk to soften it at first. Then as time goes by, he would decrease the milk. I'm sure other people have other alternatives, this is just what we did/do.

We also used Purina Puppy Chow and Iams Puppy Food as our primary choices for Puppy food.

If you choose to use a different type puppy food for your puppy, please GRADUALLY introduce the new food by mixing it gradually with the type he is already accustomed to. Example, 3 cups original food mixed with 1 cup new food. 2 cups original food mixed with 2 cups new food, 1 cup original food mixed with 3 cups new food, etc., etc. Until you have weaned off the original food.

It is not good for the puppy or dog to constantly change foods. Find one that works for you and your puppy/dog and stick with it. This will help with solid and consistent stools as well as minimalizing abdominal discomfort.

Also, a puppy should remain on puppy food for at least a year. My dog just turned a year old 2 weeks ago and I am just now introducing adult food to her. I am doing the gradual introducion of the new adult food. It is important they have the puppy food as they are really growing and developing that first year.

I would also recommend avoiding wet/canned dog food. It's too rich for them and has quite an impact on their stools.

OK first thing, don't get foods with dyes in them such as BENEFUL. Since your puppy to be is eating from it's mother, I suggest you use NUTRO NATURAL CHOICE for puppies. This food has no dye's or added ingredients because it's all natural. Not only will this help your puppy during it's growth, it's also good for sensitive stomachs. I have two Cavalier King Charles Spaniels and they love it. Hope I've helped!

Start you puppy off right with a homemade diet, their are no commercial dog foods on the market that are any good. They are all made with waste and junk and are highly processed. You will have a happy, healthier puppy and he will live a much longer life.

Puppy chow works great. Follow the directions on the bag as to how many times a day to feed him.

purina puppy chow is just fine, read the label it will tell how long to feed him the puppy food and when to change him to adult food. different dogs, like my great danes, need to be on large breed puppy food for a longer amount of time! or ask your vet!

You need to start by feeding it whatever the breeder starts off feeding him when he/she is old enough to eat dry food . But then you can start to get him/her on a different food by mixing the new with the old . I would use Science Diet Puppy

i like purina proplan puppy. Be sure you don't feed puppy food as long as they recommend on the bag because it can cause pana. You should switch to adult food by 6 months. (Read some pana sites for your breed to find the exact timing)

Find a reputable vet and tell them your problem. Make an appointment now for the pup to be seen at that vets to check him/her over thoroughly. Pups come with a lot of friends like worms and fleas, eye infections, bowel problems, just get the pup in and the vet will advise you on feeding.
