Think how different the Bible would be if the authors had psychologists.
Personally, I think the ancient Egyptians belief that there was some hippopotamus-crocodile monster that ate your soul if you were judged 'bad' by Hathor (Maat's feather-?) after you died...that's a lot more practical than wasting all this time and energy on creating a place of ETERNAL torment.

A person who lives to an age and mental capability to choose between good and evil must do so now. God is just. When one leaves this life, he or she must be judged for what was done in this life. There are consequences for both good and bad. All do what is wrong, and these actions and thoughts must be punished. If God, as an all-knowing Judge, allows wrong to go unpunished, will He still be good? A human judge who lets a rapist go free because he is loving and forgiving is not good. Judgment must come after this life.

God doesn't want lip service. Such is not true repentance. Repentance is meaningless after death. If you're not willing to admit that you're in sin and headed for Hell and that the only "cure" for that sin is Christ, God must exact the penalty for that sin after death.

What makes you believe in the after life?
Eccl 3:19, Eccl 9:5,10
19Â For there is an eventuality as respects the sons of mankind and an eventuality as respects the beast, and they have the same eventuality. As the one dies, so the other dies; and they all have but one spirit, so that there is no superiority of the man over the beast, for everything is vanity.
5. For the living are conscious that they will die; but as for the dead, they are conscious of nothing at all, neither do they anymore have wages, because the remembrance of them has been forgotten.
10. All that your hand finds to do, do with your very power, for there is no work nor devising nor knowledge nor wisdom in She′ol, the place to which you are going.

That's what all people will do if they see God in the afterlife. They will love Him out of fear and not out of choice. Then, they will pay for all the sins in their life because they did not believe in Jesus Christ.

The bible says that those who believe will be in heaven after the second coming of Christ. Nowhere have I read that those ascending into heaven would only come from the earth. So as far as I'm concerned there is hope for non-believers, however, I'm sure he would rather have people believe in him before death instead of after. With that said Christ will not be in hell so if your there it's gonna be pretty tough to meet him.

nita's answer KILLS me!! It's not supposed to be easy!! Why not? God could make it easy if he wanted to. Christians really like the idea of an old man paddling them, don't they.
As to the main question: 1.) There is no god. 2.) If there were, he'd have the power to exercise more forgiveness than the Christians give him. 3.) If there were, I doubt he revealed himself thousands of years ago to a bunch of misogynists who lived in the desert. 4.) There is no god to begin with

I think you have a good question and hope you aren't being snarky about it.
I'll sum up the Bible in one phrase: God loves us and wants us to listen to him.
A lot of people get the first part, but very few the second.
To specifically answer your question.......I don't know. I'm not God and can't answer for him. What I do know is that he really would like us to listen to him. There have only been a few times anyone ever has (in the Bible).

Believing in God is like fire being hot. People can tell you that fire is hot, but if have to stick your hand in the flame for proof, it's too late to do anything about it. It's the same way with God. If you wait until you die to see Him face to face, then it's too late to do anything about your soul.
As for being forgiven for our sins while we are alive, that is the what determines where we spend the afterlife.

You can't sin in the afterlife. It's impossible to sin in the afterlife (at least heaven, but I'm not sure about hell).
