Hi, I have developed an allergic rash and would really really like to know what I am allergic to. Could it be laundry soap? Because my hands turned red and swollen at night after I touched it, but I have used this same brand of laundry soap in the past and it has not produced this effect. Please help...

Two ways to learn what you are allergic to. 1) Set up a painful test with a doctor. You will be poked and scratched for over an hour and may take several visits. 2) Plain old observation. This takes a longer amount of time and a little bit of effort, but with a pen and pad you could narrow it down in maybe a week.

Did you touch anything else? Did you have bleach in the water or anything. Allergies can pop up after time. I used the same make-up for years and developed an allergy to it. What you eat can cause you to have a chemical change in your body, therefore causing a sudden allergy to other things. My daughter had a bad allergic reaction to grape soda a while back, but since it showed itself as a very bad rash (8-10 inches in diameter) on her stomach, I thought that it was something to do with laundry. One at a time I tried different things. I changed soap, then stopped using bleach, I tried all kinds of changes until I realized that it had started shortly after I had bought the grape soda. She hasn't drank it since and is completely cleared up. The high dye content is what I attributed it to. Good Luck. Doctors cost money, but if you can afford it and trust them (which I do not) that may be a quicker fix for you.

You can develop an allergy to anything at anytime even if you've been using the product for years. If your hand turned red and started to swell after you used the soap then I say that is probably your culprit. Try an allergy free laundry soap, Tide makes one, and test a little bit on yourself first before you use it in the washer. Hope this helps and everything works out. Good Luck

Regarding allergies, they can occur suddenly, even if you have used a particular product for years. The manufacturer also may have changed the ingredients in the product, or the product may have been inadvertently contaminated with something you are allergic to. If you use laundry additives such as chlorine or nonchlorine bleach and fabric softeners, this may also be a culprit. Over-the-counter antihistamines (oral, NOT topical) can soothe a mild allergic reaction. Obviously, if you are having wheezing or difficulty breathing, you must seek emergency care as this may indicate a potentially-fatal anaphylactic allergic reaction. My suggestion? If you feel it is your detergent, consider many of the dye- and fragrance-free detergents out there. I use allergen-free, dye-free, fragrance-free All.

Same brand and same fragrance? I didn't know for a long time why I kept breaking out just now and then when I finally narrowed it down to DOWNY! Turns out that Downy or anything with Downy in it gave me a severe rash! I got the data from the CDC along with their warnings about the Chemicals used for "Fragrance"! My life has improved considerably. NO MORE ITCHING WITH A RASH!

Go to your family doctor or an allergist and request a patch test. They don't hurt at all. They take various common allergins and pinch a tiny bit into your skin. The patches of skin that react show which allergins you're reacting to.. I think that's how it works. I've had it done but i'm not a doctor so lol.. my medical knowledge might not be perfect.

call your local doctor and tell him about the day you got your rash and any other signs of side effects that have occurred since then... you may need to go to your doctor and have tests run so you can be aware of your allergies and you will know what you need to stay away from next time... hope your rash heals... :)

Ask the doctor for an allergy test. If he does not find anything, explain your symptoms to the doctor. Then he or she should be able to prescribe you with a medicine or treatment for your allergies.

best way is to be tested by an allergist. Otherwise you have to elminate things that you come in contact one at a time and can take a week to clear up.
