Yes, I really am a dark matter alien that feeds on baryonic matter thus causing the extinction of all life in the visible universe. ;) (Read the Hard SF novel "Ring", that's where I got the inspiration for my photino bird avatar.)
No actually, I'm human, female, about 5'2" , reddish blonde hair, that dresses like a hippie and loves wearing hats.
Who do I think has the best looking avatar? Acid Zebra's alien avatar is the cutest thing I've ever seen! So is Markyyy's and Thrice Baked; the avatars are just adorable.

Well, there didn't seem to be either a gray-at-the-temples hair option OR a full goattee option in the Yahoo avatar menu, but I do wear glasses and that's more or less what I looked like, oh, twenty or so years ago, lol.
Places that let me upload w/o a 360º account, I use either Marv from Sin City or a photo of an actual wild boar looking oddly dignified from a German photographer's site.
I think I look more like both of those than this avatar. :-)
Luci and Irena have the hottest avatars on Y!A. I dream about them sometimes . . . *G*

Well, there aren't really that many ugly avatars - especially for the girls. Now some of the guys' avatars can have this freaky expression like they're gritting their teeth (constipated-?). Kind of a double standard that the male ones can be bald or freaky looking but the female ones are all cute...
My avatar does look like me to some extent.

My hair is lighter. I do make this face a lot though. But I don't have antennae or a pet raptor. Unfortunately you can't see the raptor on this thumbnail version. I assure you, it is pretty rad.
I really hope people don't look like their avatars because a lot of them freak me out...like the face with the really big eyes and pouty lips. It's like an alien species. If people actually looked like those type of avatar faces, I'd be hiding under my bed instead of on Y!A.

I look like my avatar, right now (or as close as I can get), but I've had my avatar be "a different way I see myself" many times before. I don't dress quite as hippie as my avatar.

Truth be told, I was previously known as "The Whiz" and my avatar looked approximately like me. When I first began to frequent R&S it was a lot more violent than it is now and I allowed myself to freely respond to Fundie provocations. Eventually, "The Whiz" developed an aggressive identity of his own and no longer represented my own philosophical views. After receiving far too many death threats from irate Christians, I decided to try a different approach. I changed my name to "Diogenes" and created a new avatar by flipping a coin many, many times. (Coincidently, my current avatar looks surprisingly like my next door neighbor.) Then I did my best to not respond to Fundie provocations and tried to avoid needlessly inflicting pain, while attempting to remain consistent with my own philosophical views. I still continued to receive death threats from authoritarian fundamentalist Christians who imagine all intellectual dissent is equivalent to religious treason.
Because of my experiences here in R&S, I have learned that there is little or no difference between religious zealots and fascist extremests. Both imagine the world (or the nation) would be improved if everyone adhered to the same set of values. Strength through mandatory uniformity seems to be the bigot's universal cry. Personally, I am utterly opposed to this dehumanizing philosophy, which has created so much suffering throughout human history. I prefer to live in an open civilization which embraces human diversity and allows each person to contribute what they do best. People who easily take offense at the opinions of others are usually intellectually immature, have few opinions of their own and generally rely on others to do their thinking for them. Such people believe the will of their imaginary God trumps the civil liberties of all their fellow men and are a persistent danger to democratic civilization.
With this thought in mind, I long-ago elected to disable my Answers e-mail (because hate mail IS emotionally upsetting) and to continue to freely express my opinions in the R&S forum. This strategy allows me to completely ignore what all the rest of you may think of me, and allows me to remain ideologically consistent with my own personal philosophy. My current avatar, having been carefully randomized, is merely a disguise which gives me an identity, without revealing who I am. I have no opinion regarding whose avatar is "really attractive."

Well, since my "avatar" is a picture of two wolves, then ya I guess I like it. I don't view myself as a wolf, but I do have several wolf like qualitites, and my spirit guide is a wolf.
I personally like to see the pics of the real person, the internet can be very decieving, and you can be or look pretty much any way you want too.

I tired to make an avatar that looks like me. The colouring is close, but the facial shape is wrong. Mine is more of a long oval. The main reason I use it is because I don't like the default "shadow".

My avatar is what I might look like in drag.(My original avatar looked like me quite a bit) I have really long blond hair, green eyes, size double D boobs, and have to hide my decent looks under a frumpy appearance to appease my husband's suspitions and jealousy. And with my avatar as a dude, trolls don't bother me either. It's fun, and a few of my buds know it's me. Party-on

My avatar is a sanatized version of the soccer mom I see myself to be. It makes me look far too perfect from the way I am in normal life. But, it's something to aspire too, I suppose.
IWF & Laptop Jesus have my favorite avatars.
