If you read a book by a well known psychotherapist Scott M Peck. he describes the realities of what love is and what it is not.In society people have conformed to the romantic myth of love which is completly false. No matter who it is you fall in love with you will invariably fall out of it. -'the road less travelled'.If it's merely lust it will be about self gratification and the flesh. If it's love when your lover stands before you you will feel a sense of veneration like before a Velasquez painting of Venus. It will not just be a purely physical affair but something almost sacred holy and spiritual.

i am no love expert but i love to study psychology and things like that. what you feel for a guy, is just a feeling that when you are not near him everything feels uncompleted? when you are near him does everything feel clearer and better? when you think about him do you feel your heart beating? if you see him in public, do you start shaking/sweating in the palms? if he walks by you do your legs often get shaky? the last questions are signs of true love if answered yes. in terms of lust, and i never read of the bible but it's one of the deadly sins i think. but i dont know yet how to determine feelings of lust. sorry.

Hi.
I met my boyfriend four years ago online, in a Yahoo! religion chatroom. I was not interested at all. I was in my normal flirtatious mood. We became friends after some drama in the chat room, and we ended up beginning a website together. Suddenly, he disappeared, and I realized how much I missed him. When he returned after that month, he explained that his mother had died. He had a girlfriend, I had a boyfriend for a few months more. My boyfriend and I broke up, easily, and then a month later or so, he found his girlfriend cheating on him, leaving him for a crackhead. I was the first one he called.
He lives in FL, and I live in NY. I'd have to say that the love that I feel for him comes out of respect. In addition, we fit together so well. When we are together, it feels like the world is right. In addition, we share many common interests - hiking, religion, higher learning, philosophy, community service, biking, martial arts and fighting - the list goes on and on.
The best way to evaluate it...would you still want to have sex with them if they weren't physically attractive, older? What if they suddenly got into a freak accident that removed their sexual ability? Would you stay with them because you love spending time with them? Do you respect them? Do they respect you? When you wake up in the morning, and you're lying in bed, do you imagine the future with them? Could you stand them for the rest of your life?
I think if they're a close friend, you've got a great chance of it being love. I hope that it works out for you.

Lust is when you want to be touched and stroked. Love is when you care about someone else's happiness. The two are not mutially exclusive.
