I came down with a terrible case of strep throat on 6/23. I went to the doctor on 6/25 and got a shot of penicillin and then 5 days of amoxicilin. I took all of the amoxicilin and was feeling almost 100% better by 6/30. However, this morning I woke up with a headache and a sore throat again.

Do I need to go back to the doctor? I can't afford to miss any more work...

Contact your doctor (or his nurse) and list your symptoms: headache, sore throat, temperature. This could be your streptococcus infection returning; this could be allergies; this could be a rhinovirus (common cold). Your physician probably took a throat swab, which is tested for C&S (culture and sensitivity) to assure you are receiving the right antibiotics for your particular variety of streptococcus bacteria. Your physician may wish to continue the same antibiotics, or prescribe a different type. Either way, it is entirely up to the physician whether you must go back. A caution: If you have a strep infection and a fever and are not on antibiotics, you may be contagious to your co-workers and customers!

Whenever I've been prescribed Amoxicillin for an infection, I've had to take it for 10 days. So, your 5 days seems kind of short. You should call your doctor and see if he will call in a refill to your Pharmacy.

you probably need to go back to the dr, if it is strept again you for sure need an antibiotic, untreated strept is the #1 cause of kidney disease, it could be that you need a different type of antibiotic. Also it may not be strept, maybe viral, you dont want to take an antibiotic if you dont need it

Since this regimen of medication did not work there may be something else wrong. Doctors can misdiagnose your problem. You need to get checked again.

its worth a try to see if they would just call you in another prescription. but considering the last dose was just a little bit ago they may want to find out why it is back so soon. But I would try to see if theyd call you in some til you can make it back in.

It would be up to your doctor. He/she may want to
try another medication.

Call the doc and see what he says.
Bottled water might help.
