I painted our dining room using a flat paint b/c that’s what I was told you should use in that room. Well, 3 months down the road, I now need to repaint the room b/c of the stains my 2 yrs old has made on the walls…juice box squirts, etc. My question is this. If I am painting the room the same color, just using a semi-gloss this time, do I need to prime first or just go with the semi-gloss? Thanks!!!

What I would do is buy a pint of Zinzer Primer. Prime the stained area where your kids left their mark. Then repaint the walls with your semi-gloss. Your flat coat will act as the primer. Also no need to tint the primer....Happy Painting....

You shoudn't have to prime it, but I'd do a test spot where there are stains just to be sure. You may want to think about a washable/stain resistant paint. Have your tried using a Mr. Clean Magic Eraser on the marks? It works wonders and you may not have to repaint.

No need to prime unless very dark stains. Never listen to what "they" say. If you have kids-use semi gloss. I always do.

It would be best to prime. That way you have a fresh coat without any oil stains or dirt to interfere with the new coat. It will look better and last longer. good luck.

The "water" type stains need to have a blocker applied to them to stop bleed thru.be sure what ever you use to prime or block ,blocks water stains. Kiltz is a very good water blocker......George
