the only reason why they don't care is because usually, u have to look inside the tag to look at the brand name, and they would be too young to notice and/or know what the logos are.
u know how abercrombie has a moose, and hollister has an seagull, and american eagle has, well, an eagle! well the logos are so small, it's hard for them to see, and thus they don't notice it, cause they don't know what it is.
also at this age, all they care about is having fun
but if you wanna buy them brand name clothing, i say GO FOR IT, cause i have to say, a LOT of brand name clothing is VERY VERY comfortable.

no it does not mean nothing as long as they look nice when neccesary that all that matters, I do sometimes by my son name brand shoes because they tend to last longer but see i have 2 boys a year apart so it really like I am buying for 2. A great place to get name brand stuff is once upon a child I dont know if you live around one but it is a resell shop and you can find some stuff that is like brand new or still looks really nice. And dont worry kids would rather have toys that clothes any day, and plus if you have a boy those clothes will probaly be dirty within 5 minutes of having them on.

Some younger children do realize the difference between name brand/expensive clothing verse Target/Walmart clothing etc.etc
But this is a great time to start teaching your child the importance of not following the crowd. Teach your child that it's ok to dress different and not to feel bad if someone tries to tease or make mean comments about clothing. This will really help with your child's self esteem. Do you really want your children to go though life feeling like he/she has to dress or act a certain way to be accepted.
Hope this helps
good luck
(In most public schools in higher grades clothing is an issue.
I suggest placing you children in private or an academy school where uniforms are mandatory. This way your problem is solved.)

Children dont know about brands unless they are old enough - you posted this in the TODDLER and PRESCHOOL section, so I will assume your child is under 5 years old. Im willing to bet that your child would have no clue at this age.
I have an interesting twist on this issue... Firstly, I used to buy alot of name brand 'designer' clothes for my daughter (15 months). I would always shop on EBAY and buy used clothes because little ones grow so fast and EBAY has great deals on stuff that was probably only worn 5 times.
Anyhow, now that my little one is running around and more active in daycare - I cant seem to get the daycare people to understand that the fingerpaints and glue belong on the art project and not all over my childs clothing. I guess what Im trying to say is that the daycare people dont care what she is wearing and now Im steering off of any clothing that costs more than $10.

I don't nkow if kids that age are really that shallow that early or not, but his education is more important then his wardrobe. I had a horrible school experience when i was older - like 5th grade on, because my mom always dressed me in like bradlees stuff. But at toddler/preschool age? That's a bit much.
If you do decide to get him the name brands, try searching the consignment shops - there is a great one called Once Upon a Child that we love (www.ouac.com) and sometimes there are little small kids consignment shops around. Otherwise ebay. Kids go through clothes WAY too quickly to buy them all brand new name brand stuff - so unless you're rich, you will need to see how to economize and just wait til they are a teenager and will refuse to wear secondhand clothes.

I wouldn't think head start age children realize what brand clothing a child is wearing unless they look inside their shirt, short, or pants tag. The best thing for your child I think is to teach them the value of a dollar. If I spend twenty dollars (which to me is very wasteful) on a pair of shorts then you don't get that toy that you wanted. They would probably quickly change their mind. After all to a child this age, toys are the greatest thing. Clothes typically don't come until their preteens, to teen. Try Kohls department stores if you haven't already they often have brand name clothes on sale and they have nice enough clothes that would be hard to differentiate brand name from generic.

Yes I do think you are worrying too much about the youngest child. You can still go to a dollar store and find great looking name brand clothing or you could go to the mall for their sales or a TJ max store, they always have name brand clothing for ALL AGES. And teaching your children that as long as their clothing is not the most essential thing to worry about and they have great personalities is first priority.

My kids are 6 and 8 and started in preschool at 3, and no one has ever brought up brand names yet. My oldest just finished 2nd grade and a lot kids wear the brand names and she has a few I have gotten on sale because they are cute, not because of the brand, and no one has said anything yet. Knock on wood LOL

I have found, that kids dont really care or care what others are wearing until they hit about 5 or 6th grade. I completley understand, I was one of 5 kids and no name brand anything, unless you consider Kmart a name brand...so with my kids once they reached, about the 4th grade I made sure they had name brand. It is tough having 3 kids to cloth with what "everyone else is wearing" but it is worth it, they do get treated differently if they dont have "it". Although, I do teach my kids that not everyone is as lucky as them and cant afford what you have, and it is not about things in life , it is about who you are as a person and from inside. It is one thing to dress them with name brand but, they also must understand, they are no better for it, otherwise they will be the ones treating others bad for not having it. Good luck
