I am not sure it was done legally, but I have 4 kids and they tell me NONE of their school's/classes do this anymore.

I like seeing that people with vote a thumbs down, but not leave a comment.

To those who disagree, at least state why.

To those who agree, star it to show we do care.

I think that the effect is that kids don't feel a connection with the country at all. We live here, we eat here we expect the government to take care of us and give us stuff, but how do we connect??
We're becoming Borg like, part of the whole not really aware of what's going on outside of our little circle,
but where the h*** is FEMA when something happens.

You can't have it both ways.
I don't think removing the pledge or prayer from school is the cause, I think it's a symptom of the death of the dream of the United States

Yes, they traditionally do. Pledging political allegiance to a country, by way of the main image of that country, isn't synonomous with worshipping an idol. The Pledge does not require any person to worship the flag or the country of which it's the image.

No, I do not. And it wasn't illegal to do so. Saying the Pledge is a tradition, not a law. Just as young people are not taught civics anymore (hell, forget civics, how about manners and morals?), saying the Pledge in the morning should be the choice of the school district.

There are many things that have hurt America. Believe me, this isn't one of them. Guaranteed all those *ssh*l*s in Washington who are causing the problems know how to say the Pledge and it didn't help them any.

The Pedge of Allegiance was originally "invented" by a Flag salesman ( who was a socialist ) to help him sell more flags. The Pledge is not rooted in US history like the Star Pangled Banner. So, knowing that , in Texas we pledge to the US and the State!

Yes it has hurt our country because we have a whole generation of people who do not know the words to our National Anthem and the words to the Pledge of Allegiance. They also do not know what Patriotism is about either.

Yes, because this is our country and unless we are willing to sacrifice for it, we will lose it. Thus, by note saying you believe in this country and its mores, you are showing that you will take what it has to offer, but are unwilling to give back. This is why the war is so unpopular. People do not want to be taken away from their television and video games. The war inconveniences them. People want freedom, but will not work for it.

My kids say the Pledge everyday at school and yes it is a public school. Of course we are in Orange County CA, where we named our courthouse after Ronald Reagan and our airport after John Wayne!

I worry more that Civics and History is no longer being taught in the schools. I bet Timothy McVeigh had to say the Pledge of Allegiance but that didn't do much for his allegiance, did it?

Of course. The government is saying with its actions thatwe no longer owe our allegiance to the USA. I am proud to be an American except when stupid, ridiulous, detrimental laws are passed like this.

This Global War on Terror is proof of how much laws like this hurt this nation. (BTW, I am in support of the war even though I do have Army friends who are on the frontlines.) I have done much research on WW2 because that time period is very fascinating to me. We started stong in that war, and we finished strong, AND WE WON! In this war, we started strong then just got weaker. Is it any wonder that we can't win!?

I feel that it has hurt the country. Kids do not have a sense of National pride anymore. The sad thing is that the ACLU was founded on good intentions and meant to improve life in America. Now it serves as a tool of anti-Americanism.
