just about at the same intellectual level as believers who try to prove God exists with physical things?

Isnt the argument completely senseless?

Why are people so stuck on proving things to each other? Is that all you can debate on?

Yes, it's absolutely senseless. If everyone would just practice tolerance and let everyone believe what they choose without constantly trying to change their minds, we would all be better off.

Personally, I have never tried to disprove the existence of gods; it's impossible to prove nonexistence. I just know there are no gods, nor any supernatural phenomena. I find the whole "prove/disprove" thing sort of silly, like watching an argument carried out with two-by-fours: Everyone just ends up bruised and silly-looking, and nothing is accomplished.

No, the atheists can prove their side.

The two are nowhere close to equal.

I guess you don't realize that, or you wouldn't be asking this question. But yes, atheists can prove the majority of the religions of today are false. It follows then that the gods created by these religions don't exist, either. But even if they do, the holy books dedicated to them are obviously wrong, so who really cares? If a god exists, we know nothing about him/her, and therefore have nothing to fear with regard to a hell or anything like it.

Edit - Just out of curiosity... does anyone else think that Jean forgot her medication again? I mean, Jean says a lot of stupid stuff, but that last one there is a doozy. :)

As an Atheist I have no need to try an disprove a thing that there is no evidence to support in the first place.

God is a fantasy made up by ancient, primitive people to explain the things around them that were beyond comprehension. Those things have now been explained. Ergo - no god. Simple really.

I am not an atheist but I think atheists believe that as there is no physical evidence to prove the existence of God he does not exist. I am sure if there is a God he will understand them. Most relgions were founded by one indvidual who claimed God spoke through him. In the world today there are hundreds of godmen and godwomen who have millions of followers. Some of them say that god has chosen them to help people know god through them. I think the atheists have the courage not to let such people fool them and are willing to rely on their own abilities to fight life's battles. I think God is with them.

Only if there's any proof of anything other than the physical world. Given that allegedly God not only created the world, but also interacts with it then there should be physical evidence of that interaction. It's fairly simple, things like the sun stopping (well OK, earth's rotation stopping and starting) should have been noticed and recorded by all existing cultures.

Not really, showing that all things come from natural processes, shows how little of a hand god has in all things. This is why there are now arguments that god just set things in motion and let it go, knowing where it would go he didn't need to interfere. Much different from the christian god of the bible though.

Less than one hundred years ago people were saying "How can this be true?"

Revelation 11:9
and they of the people and kindreds and tongues and nations shall see their dead bodies three days and a half, and shall not suffer their dead bodies to be put in graves.

The question was "How can all the nations see their dead bodies in the street of Jerusalem?" The Bible is allegory and mythical is what atheists would say and they'd call it just a book of fairytales.

However, TV was invented and the Bible came true one more time.

Bible prophecy is one great reason to believe.

You can't prove or disprove. My reasons for how I believe are proven to me from reasoning. It's what makes sense to me individually. All my reasons are proof enough for me. I only state how I believe and why. I don't need to prove it to anyone. I would rather have reasoned it out with my own thought processes than believe in something that was drilled down my throat since birth and that made no sense whatsoever.

Because proof is truth, honey. You can't provide proof, then I don't know that you're telling the truth. And devoting a life to a god isn't like saying that you saw Michael Jackson in the corner store by your house because it doesn't really matter if you actually did or not since it isn't going to impact your life in any way. Devoting your existance to a god is a heck of alot bigger than that.

So... proof is truth. Provide proof, and I'll know you're telling the truth.

Understand it now?
