Just been to my local shop and bought some women's products (you see i'm doing it now) tampons! The woman in the shop asked me whether I wanted a bag. I said no thank you. But she insisted on putting them in a bag. I said I didn't need a bag. I live less then 2 mins down the street, I'll just carry them. And then I got a lecture on how to save my embarrassment I should take a bag?? To be embarrassed would mean that I may be ashamed and I'm not ashamed to be a woman so why the hassle of the bag??

The person obviously would have felt embarrassed if they were in the situation. I wouldn't take too much offense to what she did, it was with good intent.

And I DO think its pretty ridiculous that people are embarrassed of things like tampons, condoms, and farts. Believe it or not, everyone goes through these things. The prudence of society is still with us, but I'm sure there is a difference now then earlier, and with assertive and confident women like you, there will be more acceptance to nature and reality.

I am not embarrassed to carry tampons but, other people don't handle these things so well. It is a human condition. Woman are generally taught to be polite and "nice". Therefore we should not show anything that might not be nice. LOL I suppose in some people's opinion tampons are part of a private matter. Sharing private things, is not nice. God, what a bunch of crap! Besides, those plastic bags are contributing to the scary environmental issues so, Why,..... do we have to carry them?

I just think that she would be embarrassed, so she thought you would be. I personally wouldn't want to carry tampons down the street. Maybe you don't mind, but she wouldn't want to so she just wanted to be sure. I also think that she tried to convince you that it's embarrassing. It has nothing to do with being ashamed to be a woman, it just is about having everyone know that you are having your period while walking down the street.

Because this person has a major need for approval from others. By not putting herself in a position to be judged, she is keeping herself in a safe place... a neutral place, which to her- translates into a place of approval from others.

Kudos to you for not being embarrassed.. you are a woman, and women get their periods, and they use products like tampons, etc. when they have their periods. I would think buying feminine hygiene products would be a good thing!! Can you imagine if women who had their periods didn't buy them?? EEEWWWW!!!

she's embarrassed by them and probably knows loads of people who are embarrassed and therefore assumed you would be too.I myself wouldn't take a bag for tampons. It's wasteful for such a small item. However i've worked in loads of shops and have never had a woman buy tampons or towels and then not ask for a bag

That's funny. I don't know if I would be embarassed to carry them w/o a bag or not. I should try it.

I would find it interesting to see what you would say to my friends boyfriend. She keeps a box of tampons at the side of the toilet in the bathroom (not strange to me) and he asked her to put them away somewhere that 'wouldn't embarass him when his friends come round'...
