You know that you have been called to preach when you try not to answer that calling and God will not give you any peace in your soul as you try to cling to your will for your life instead of His.

It took me a while to figure out that God was calling me to preach. I ended up going to my Pastor with this same question, and he told me if I was even asking this question than I probably knew that God was calling me to preach.
The main thing was everytime I would read God's Word or do a Bible study, something about preaching was always brought out to my attention. I would ask people if they were getting the same thing when they would read certain passages, and they said no. So God was definately speaking to me directly from His Word.
Then, I just prayed about it. It was funny how many people came and talked to me after that about preaching. So not only was God talking to me through the Bible, but now through other people.
Finally, my Pastor was out of town one Wednesday evening and asked me if I wanted to preach. You will find out very quickly if God is calling when you actually get up there and preach. I am horrified by public speaking, but when I got up there to preach, God took care of it and the fear was gone(well, after a few minutes!).
Sorry this is so long, but it is important to know for sure. So pray about it, listen for an answer in your Bible study and from the people around you that know you.
God bless!

For me, (I'm going to school to learn how to become a pastor) I find the best time for me to preach is when I've studied Scripture and God has put a message on my heart. I've only spoke a few times and every time I've shared from God's word I've learned something new about my walk with Christ and how to better serve others.

When God calls you, he gives you the desire.
I believe that you have been called to disciple people. What he did with you is that he showed you where a problem lies, and is building in you a since of urgency to salve that problem. Right now you are in the stage of learning how to do it. You are not to rise up to this calling yet, but soon. (Within the next couple of years)

The only time you will have peace is when you're preaching. No other occupation will be suitable for you.
