You should give him the whole outfit to wear then let him decide, he wont have a good day and will probably ruin yours as well if he feels uncomfortable in what he is wearing.
If its a wedding, everyone will probably be too bladdered by the end of the night to care!

Most of the weddings we do or go to not many wear the full suit but for the night weddings. If it's a day wedding then a nice pair of pants, dress shirt and tie is the norm. If it's a full dress affair at night then a suit. Being in the wedding you should know the atmosphere, remember at the reception as th night goes on the more casual it becomes and the tie and shoes will come off for a more casual dancing so have fun it's all in what is more comfortable to wear as long as it's not a T-Shirt and Jeans, which I have seen at many weddings also.

i am listing some wedding etiquette sites that describe what you asking here one thing i found out for you here something that i found hope it helps
The bride is the star of the wedding, and her dress determines the groom's outfit – and, to a degree, the guests outfits. Traditionally the bride wears a long, white dress. At smaller weddings, and especially when it is not a first wedding, the bride may, for example, wear a smart, light-coloured suit.
As for the groom, a dark suit, a white shirt and a discreet tie are always a safe choice. Depending on the bride’s dress, the groom may also wear a dress suit, a dinner jacket (tuxedo) or a morning suit.
The bride’s wedding bouquet echoes the style of the dress; the groom wears a white carnation on the coat lapel. The bride’s father and the best man are identical to the groom in their attire. The guests are notified of the dress code on the invitation.

I'm getting married on July 14th. It's more of a formal wedding, but the only people I expect to wear a full suit with a tie and jacket are people who are actually in the wedding (groomsmen, usher, etc.).. just have him wear some trousers and a nice shirt and tie that would coordinate with your bridesmaid dress.

How formal is the wedding? I've been to weddings where it was okay to wear kahki trousers with a shirt and tie, and others where that would have been much too casual. Ask your sister how formal it is, or when it doubt just have him wear a suit and he can take the jacket off if he wants to.

Get him a suit, if he does not have a suit decent suits can be had some where like Syms for around $200 and then the shirt and tie, I agree with the other comments make sure he is comfortable and also will look good next to you as you will be in several pictures together.

At the very minumum, He should wear a TIE, dark trousers and a nice pair of leather shoes.
If he has a suit, he should wear the suit.

I would have him where nice pants and a coordinating shirt or tie to your dress. He isn't part of the wedding party so don't dress him like he is unless it is a very formal wedding and all attending gents will be in their suits or Tux's. Best bet is to let him be comfortable and fit in with your family. Just as a side note... ask your Dad's opinion and what he thinks your beau should be wearing to fit with your family.

It is going to depend on when the wedding is on Saturday and if it is formal or not. If it is not formal and an afternoon wedding he could probably get away with a nice pair of khakis, a nice short/long sleeve dress shirt and a nice tie, he could probably get away with not wearing a jacket.
If it is more dress up, but not formal he will need to wear a suit, if it is formal he will need to wear a nice suit or tux.

i think as long as he wears a shirt, tie and smart trousers he will be okay. that is what my boyfriend wore to a wedding we went to. but if he would like to wear the jacket also then even better.
