Anxiety disorders and depression often go together. It is not unusual. Usually, a combination of therapy and medication is in order, at least for awhile.

Yes, you can recover; but it is hard work and takes a bit of time. You can do it!

I know from personal experience the way that it feels when the two go hand in hand. For years they attempted to treat the depression alone, thinking it caused the anxiety, but nothing helped until they attacked the anxiety head on. I have dealt with it since I was 13 (that's when it got severe) and I am 20 now. there were several times that I questioned my life, as a lot of people in that position do.
I spoke first to my parents and then my doctor. It took 6 years of frustration and different therapists and medications, but eventually the therapies started to work for me.
Remember to keep your chin up, as hard as it may be. It will all work out, you aren't worthless, just lost and frustrated.
Reaching out is honestly the first step in your battle. Talk to people about it, people you know and trust, and it will work out in the end.

Me. You, young man, are not a loser. You can overcome this with medication and therapy. You're so young. Don't give up. It's not your fault, it's a chemical imbalance. That's what the meds are for.
I had SAD forever as far back as I can remember. When I turned 18 and got my own place, I couldn't even go to the grocery store! I almost starved! Anyway, I'm on meds and have been for a long time. It really helps.
I'm glad you're getting your GED!!! That's excellent. I had an easy time reading your question because I like the way you write. Perhaps you should consider becoming a writer. You can do your college online.
Anyway....just a thought...
Best of luck!!

I have depression. It runs in the family. I am on medicine for it, and it helps a lot. I am also very shy (ridiculously so), but I've found that the meds help a bit with that, too. Are you in some kind of talk therapy? It will probably help to speak with a psychologist or a counselor of some sort. If your condition is severe, you may look into medicine as well. It does get better, I promise. It just takes some work.

yes and you are depressed dude but it's ok it is common and medication can make a world of difference there are some great meds without bad side affects-you need to see your dr. again and take as prescribed for one month any meds and see if you do not feel much better-my wife must take lexapro just to be normal and it is fine with me she is so much happier-anxiety and depression run hand in hand-family often shares the same conditions-not caring about no social life will go away too--i preedict you will become more desiring of getting out in public and even interacting with people--please give the meds a chance--make that appointment to see your dr. today--right away-good luck

All you can do is take your meds. if on any and take one day at a time Sweetie.

You are 17, you have many wonderful things to look forward too.

I am proud of you for working towards your g.e.d.
That is a great way to achieve the feeling of self worth.

Have you thought about what you want out of life? Where you want to be in 5 years? 10 years?

They Army or Marine Corps. is a great place to start a career or get a college education. It is a great job for people with ocd. Everything in it's place and all. And also the routine, you almost always know what to expect.

Go back to school or go to a different school and get your diploma. We all have to fight what we inherited from our families. 40 million Americans have depression. Depression often manifests itself as something else such as anger, rage, anxiety, nervousness, not always apathy. Cheer yourself up by doing things you like, not like drinking but things you really enjoy. Exersize really helps with depression such as running, bike riding or swimming. Exersize increases brain activity and neuron growth and releases endorphins which make us feel good. Spend time with positive people. Write down your bad feelings and then tell yourself you are going to let them go. Go back to school and do something good in your life. Go to church. Seek God. Do you need any more advice? licoc.org
