My parents have two dogs a black lab and a springer spaniel. When I moved out of my parents for a few months the black lab started to poo in my old bedroom, but when i moved back in she stopped doing this. She does it in pratically the same spot everytime.

A couple of weeks ago i went away for a long week end and she had done it again.

She is house trained and we have never had a problem with her before. We know it is her as she doesnt come in the room until it is cleared up and she is sure she wont get told off.

Any ideas why she does this?

Awwww bless, she's having a stressful time without you there!!! It's her way of saying 'please don't leave me' and then when you go again she's saying 'well i'll teach you for leaving me here'

I don't know what the answer is but try keeping the door shut or something and give her extra loving while you are there.

Goodluck xxxx

I too have sometimes wondered why some dogs do this. One of mine also will do this on occasion when I leave the house. Especially when I've been home all day for long periods and then have to leave the house. I have summers off from work so when I return to work I usually come home to find that he had an accident. This usually happen for the first week or so and then it stops. I would say that it is stress related, and a good way to get back at us for leaving them.
I would suggest shutting the door to the room. This may stop her from doing it all together.

Not totaly sure but the only thing i can think of it being is when you lived at home before you moved out were you closer to the black lab than the spaniel if so it is probably marking teratory to say that is his room when you are there if that makes sence either that or it is getting old and can not controll his bowl movements any more hope this is some kind of use to you.

i have a chocolate 3 yr old lab who also poo's in my flat from time to time in the same spot. i think its a seperation anxiety problem, she suffered this when i first got her and ate her way through the flat!!

basically its all about your and her position in the pack - when you are there she sees you as above her - but when you go she is marking her territory saying this is my room and i'm in charge - so hence when you come back she stops, she is trying to be the alpha and questioning the order of things

Odd isn't it....sounds like it is rooted in distress due to separation from you.....whether it is "marking" or just plain nervous dumping closing the door should stop it....

she was marking the place that you once lived in and this is to show others that she missed you and no on can live there but you.

She MISSES you! She's trying to tell you to stop leaving her.
Dogs have funny ways of telling us how they feel! :)
