I highly recommend that if you decide on a matching ring with a cut out for the stone that you also invest the $50 for a plain band as well. Reason being is this, when you get the cut out you have to wear the set all the time, if you wear the cut out band alone it wont look like a weddingband it will look like a funky ring and also will look terrible, because its not meant to be worn alone. As you get older and you have kids and just wife-life starts to take over, you dont want to wear your diamond all the time, you can scratch the baby with it or you risk losing it or damaging it, it just becomes not worth wearing except for special occasions. So you will want to have a band that you can wear in your everyday life, either dont get a cut out style or get an extra band. You dont think of these things at the begining, but trust me you will be glad you were warned. My SIL has a pear cut with a cut out band, she wishes she had thought ahead and bought a band, she hates her ring and her diamond looks like crap because she has to wear it all the time. No fooling, its so dirty and cloudy, it has no sparkle at all any more.

I just LOVE pear cut diamonds. I would have gotten one myself if it wasn't for finding a beautiful emerald cut I fell in love with.

Anyways, it really depends on your setting. It the stone is raised high enough a straight bad and slip under it and hug right up against your setting. I think that would be lovely and it would play up the unusual shape of your stone. You may also have to get a custom piece done. All the jewelry store we visited showed us pictures of the custom work they had done and the result were quite lovely (and if you just want a thin simple band to hug your ring, its really not that expensive).

The other option, if you cant find anything you like, is to wear your engagement ring on your right hand and get a wedding band. It doesn't have to be a plain band either. I've seen more and more women getting intricate wedding rings.

Or you can forgo a wedding band altogether and just have him use your engagement ring as your wedding ring. Some rings are just too beautiful to clutter up with a wedding band.

I'm sure you'll find a solution, talk to a jeweler to find out your options. Good luck and best wishes!

we could not find a wedding band to fit with my engagement ring. So I am going to wear my wedding ring on the left hand and engagement ring on the right hand. Thus I can incorporate the traditions of both countries. Wearing my wedding ring like they do here in the States (on the left hand) and my engagement ring like we do in Russia (on the right)

depends on the setting. Go and try wedding bands on with your engagement ring to get an idea of what looks best!

Check with the jeweller to see if there is a matching band for it - often there are sets. If not, get their recommendations. You may have to go with a chevron style - it's a "V".
