The brake light on the dashboard has started coming on in the mornings. It seems to go away after the brake has been tapped a few times. It also only seems to happen when the vehicle is first started.

The brakes were recently checked (within 1-2 months of this beginning) at Goodyear, and they checked out fine. They don't seem to have any problem when I apply them.

Could this just be a short in the brake light itself, or should I have it checked out?

Just a low fluid indicator. From a clean new can bottle pour into the brake resv. one or two ounces of brake fluid DOT#3 will do. AS the front pads wear brake pistons move out the fluid lowers till the light turns on. I would get a second opinion and make sure they actually remove the front wheels to look at the inside pads those wear faster (Not a problem). I have seen many customers come in with the pad squeelers broken off. "brakes were making noise a month ago then it stopped this morning grinding sound" as the metal backing is grinding into the rotor. Don't take chances with brakes.

Check the fluid? Level might be a bit low and expanding as it warms up?
