My mother in law says to me"Dan(my fatherinlaw) won't be able to see the kids afterall because he's still in pain from the surgery..so they'll have to stay here for 2 weeks until I take them home".Then I said,"Cest La Vie(sp?)".She says,"EXCUSE ME?". I say,"Cest La Vie,these things happen,I'm sure the kids are sad they won't visit this time, but they'll see him again. And there's plenty for them to do in this state..they can still have a blast.".Before getting offthe phone she says,"We love you guys, have a nice day!"..I said,"We will, you have a good one too..".She said"we will" in a mocking voice before hanging up.Was I rude?Who was rude in this conversation??

i dont think anyone was rude as such but maybe ur mother in law thought you were being sarcastic saying that theres heaps of other better things to do in ur state rather then have them visit. maybe she got her ego hurt.
I wouldnt worry to much seems like a minor thing

You did sound a little insensitive, not showing much concern for your father in law. Give your mom in law a break, I am sure she is having a hard time now. Its hard to watch some one you love in pain. I would call back and apologize and let her know where you were coming from. We have all stuck our foot in our mouths at one time or another (I think you both did). Hopefully you can offer each other grace and move on. Best of luck.

I dont understand the conversation, you're missing some key points. But it sounds like a miscommunication.

Or maybe she really just is a raggedy b i t c h.

Do I detect a little back handed jibe here? She takes everything you say out of context?

You knew that and could have played it safe as in "oh, sorry to hear that, hope he gets well soon. We can still enjoy our time here" something along those lines.

Its called being CIVIL.

Tsk, tsk.

Well, she was rude for mocking you, altough it was kinda expected when you said you have better things to do then have them visit. I'm sure you didn't mean to say that, but it came out the wrong way.

No I don't think you were rude. But I do think its disrespectful for calling your your mother in law a ***** .in your footnote.
Keep in mind that this person is your wifes mother and your childrens grandmother . tongue in cheek on your feeling towards your mother in law would have served you better .
As for your mother in law maybe your feelings towards her also hit you the wrong way . I don't think there was any rudness on your mother in laws part either.
