Their government is corrupt. The nation has abundant natural resources. The government and the wealthy elite care not about the poor. The government actually encourages the exodus to the US. Estimates are $30 to $50 billion dollars are sent back to Mexico annually by illegal aliens in the US. Where do you think that money eventually goes? Into the hands of the government and wealthy elite.
The view there is RICH US, poor Mexico. They have, we don't. The philosophy is covetous.
It is past time the US, the UN and other nations bring pressure on Mexico to start improving conditions there for it's poor. It is not a matter of 'can't' but of they 'won't'.
The Mexican government and elite do not want true assimilation to the US by the illegal aliens. If they woke up and realized where their bread was truly buttered, they'd strive harder to be here legally and stop running back and forth and sending money back. It is better for Mexico for them to bite the hand that feeds them.

The people who cross the border illegally can tell you as many horror stories as any other 3rd world refugee. They don't have clean water, food, places to live or sanitary facilities. To ask them to change their plight is not an option for them. They have no influence in government. It is like asking a homeless person in the US to change Washington DC. The government is more than glad in Mexico to be rid of the riff raff.

They don't have checks and balances on their government like we do (haha...at least the illusion of checks and balances). The Mexican government has been corrupt for years - and I mean hundreds of years. This has allowed the powerful to become more powerful, the rich to become richer, and the poor to become poorer. It's a sad situation. Still doesn't mean that I should have to support them with my tax dollars, though. When your government is oppressive and corrupt, you should work for change - no matter how difficult. That goes for all countries.
To the idiot up there (rotten-corpse) who said the U.S. "steal" the land from Mexico:
YOU'RE WRONG.
~TREATY OF GUADALUPE HIDALGO.
~GADSEN PURCHASE
GO READ SOME HISTORICAL FACT. MEXICO DIDN'T EVEN PAY ANY ATTENTION TO THE LAND NOW KNOWN AS THE AMERICAN SOUTHWEST UNTIL THE TEXANS - INCLUDING MANY MEXICANS - DECIDED IT WAS TIME TO BE INDEPENDENT OF MEXICO. ON TOP OF THAT, MEXICO RECOGNIZED TEXAS AS AN INDEPENDENT REPUBLIC UNTIL THE U.S. DECIDED TO ANNEX TEXAS. ONLY THEN DID MEXICO GIVE A DAMN ABOUT THE TERRITORY. CALIFORNIA HARDLY HAD ANY MEXICAN GOVERMENT OR MILITARY PRESENCE AT ALL.
LAND WON IN A WAR OR HANDED OVER BY TREATY OR PURCHASED IS NOT "STOLEN".
YOU'RE BRAINWASHED BY LULAC AND AZTLAN. THEY'RE WRONG. GO READ THE HISTORY BOOKS.

How do you expect them to fix their own country when they are too poor to? The rich are rich and the poor are poor. There is no middle ground. All of mexico's money is owned by 1% of the population...while the rest of mexico must get buy on the one dollar a day they make working in the fields etc....they can't afford to take the time off work to protest against their own country and it's laws when they need to put food on the table and take care of their children!!
P.S. There is no excuse for racism. Just because most of the illegals are mexican doesn't give any american the right to discriminate against LEGAL mexican americans. That's right, you can't tell the difference between legal and illegal and in that case you need to treat everyone with respect until you know otherwise. If not, then you are making it a race issue.

It's a moral question. The economic problems follow the moral ones.
The top 5% of the population controls 70 plus % of the total wealth in Mexico. The corruption, drug culture, and lack of a moral core to their society allows the average Mexican to pretty much do anything they feel like doing (to anybody) and do so with no guilty concience, no social stigma, and little legal consequences. Just about anything goes in Mexico, (especially if it makes a buck).
Ex: all the American touristas that go to Mexico to indulge in a little of that anything-goes culture=the drugs, Taquilla, prostitutes, you name it, they do it.
It is a moral problem.

Because I grew up on the border & did business in Mexico, the main problem is their culture of corruption & privledge. Mexico is one of the most racist countries in the Western Hemisphere... Watch Mexican TV & count the number of dark skinned people you see there.
The Peons are kept in a near feudal arrangement by the Europeans to provide them with something approaching slave labor. Throw in the culturally ingrained right to extract bribes by government officials & business transactions become very expensive there. When a person gains power within the government, they immediately begin to take land & property from those with the least power... indians/peons.
What amazes me is the number of Mexicans that come to the US & want to institute the same type of cultural arrangement they escaped. In the past I had to accept the position of "Patron" to Mexicans that worked for me... that has both obligations & privledges that I found difficult to escape, but their culture seemed to demand it.
Of course you have the radicals that hate Europeans & especially Gringos because of how they were treated in Mexico... but they confuse Americans with those in Mexico that kept their foot on their necks for most of their lives.
