Hi. Try this,
1. Heat oven to 350 degrees and position in top and bottom third racks.

2. Wash potatoes thoroughly with a stiff brush and cold running water.

3. Dry, then using a standard fork poke 8 to 12 deep holes all over the spud so that moisture can escape during cooking.

4. Place in a bowl and coat lightly with oil. Sprinkle with kosher salt and place potato directly on rack in middle of oven.

5. Place a baking sheet on the lower rack to catch any drippings.

6. Bake 1 hour or until skin feels crisp but flesh beneath feels soft.

NOTE: If you're cooking more than 4 potatoes, you'll need to extend the cooking time by up to 15 minutes.

Hope this helps. Good luck.

Take off the foil and discard.
Scrub spuds, pierce wth sharp knife, put into preheated oven gas mark 6 top shelf for an hour.

Without the foil the skins will bake crusty, with the foils the skins will be like they have been cooked in the microwave..

To cook in microwave, each spud takes 4-6 mins on high
to cook all 4 together about 20mins.

You do realise, that TRUE baked spuds aren't wrapped in foil? They'll steam cook and you won't have a crispy skin.

Pierce spud each end and through the middle with a sharp knife - cover with kitchen towel and then start them off in Microwave for 8 mins full power - then finish off in the oven for 1/2 an hour.

Or from raw ( still pierce the spud) in a hot oven gas 5, 375, or 175 for an hour-hour and a half - middle to top shelf - turn half way through

The perfect Jacket Potatoe

First you need to wash the potatoes and dry them very thoroughly with a cloth, then leave them aside to dry as much as possible. If you're using ready-washed potatoes you need not do this, as the high heat will purify them. Next, prick the skins a few times with a fork, then put a few drops of olive oil over each one and rub it all over the skin. After that, rub in some crushed salt – this will draw out the moisture from the skin and, together with the oil, provide more crunchiness.

Now place the potatoes straight on to the centre shelf of the oven and let them bake for 1¾-2 hours, or until the skins are really crisp.

baked potatoes are so easy to cook. Firstly there is no reason why you have to wrap them in foil. I just chuck mine in the oven at about 200 degrees celsius on the top shelf and leave for up to an hour depending on the potato size. Just wait until the skin is nice and crispy and you can easily poke a fork into the potato or cut one open as you are most likely going to do anyway when you think they are done just to be sure. Baked potatoes dont need much care and are so yummy and filling i hope you have some nice things to go with it. I like sour cream and bacon bits YUM

After washing the spud, I take an apple corerer tool and drill from each end so the hole is all the way through (Save the plugs)..
I stuff the hole with butter, cheese and minced onion. I cut the plugs I have removed to a shorter length and insert them in each end.
Rub the potato with cooking oil and cover the skin with salt.
Bake unwrapped in the oven for about 40 -50 min.
The "surprise" inside is wonderful.
Your guest will be amazed when they cut their potato open.
This is a 4 star recipe...Good luck.

I always do mine on the top shelf at 450F (whatever the equivalent gas mark is) for an hour or a bit longer until they have a slight mushy "give" when squeezed gently with an oven mitt.

Prick them with a fork and microwave them until soft, then rub them with a little oil and bake in oven they will now only take 10-15 mins or until crispy yum yum! Takes toooooo long putting them in oven when they are hard, this is the easiest way .
