My house is 100 years old. It has a wooded "bubble" frame. The people in my town back then were all brick factory workers and brick layers.

They used to steal the bricks and but then within the frame of the house as insulation.

I am in the process of tearing down the plaster walls to put up sheet rock.

Is it best to leave the bricks as insulation given the amount of time and work it would take to take them down?

Or should I take the bricks out and put up standard insulation?

I think after all these years, the brick insulation has become part of the foundation of the house.

They are now starting to use cinder blocks for insulation so I would check it out. The bricks sound like they would be great insulation because they keep a more level temperature. Stay warmer longer in the winter and cooler longer in the summer. Also, I think they would be a lot safer if there was ever a fire in the home. I'd keep them.

I am going via this. I have completed drywalling 4 rooms. Two rooms are sanded and 2 have already been painted. I did purchase a bit of extra sheetrock then was once wanted. Just pass at it a room at a time. There was once wallpaper at the partitions already. We did eliminate the paper. All the partitions have been cast plank. This was once an older residence. I had a buddy to aid me positioned the sheetrock up. This paintings could be very tiring. The worst have been the ceilings. Thank goodness you do not have got to do that. It will have to be very handy when you consider that they do not ought to be drywalled. You will want sheet rock dust, sheetrock tape, and sand paper. Be certain to shop for a cutter for the sheetrock. It is just a bit knife to scape a line. To reduce, all you do is faucet while completed.

Leave the bricks and just add a layer of 1/2" foil backed insulation to them since you are tearing out the walls anyhow.
