If you are trying to expand your vocabulary, then I would recommend a thesaurus. There is an on-line thesaurus which you can find through applying shift + F7. Just look up the words exaggerate/exaggeration and exceed/excess and you should get some ideas. Then follow through the words on the thesaurus list to get some further deas.
You are never going to sound sophisticated by using long words inappropriately. Only use words when you understand their meaning. Believe me, if you throw words about just to impress, people are going to see through you. Build up your vocabulary and make it your own. It's hard work, but it's fun.

What are you writing that you need to sound sophisticated. Its how you word it. You can have big words but if your not wording it right, you are going to look like you are just trying to show off. I am attending college and have someone in my class who tries way to hard. What he writes is way above everyones head and no one can understand him because he puts big words, but the rest of his writing doesn't match. If you're not already a sophisticated sounding person big words are not going to help you.

Sorry don't mean to offend you, just trying to be honest...
