Smoking has been around for centuries, if everybody stops smoking the general health of the nation will improve, but to what end?
Everybody will live longer, so increasing the financial burden of caring for the elderly who will become a lot more numerous.
The NHS will not be able to reduce the amount of money it needs, the increase in the number of elderly people will fill hospitals to a greater extent than they are today. The majority of hospital patients today are elderly and not smokers, although they may be both.
The Government will lose all the tax revenue from the sale of cigarettes and tobacco and be forced to increase taxes elsewhere to make up for it.

Good question Good facts and figures. My advice. Buy more illegally imported fags and tobbacco and smoke on regardless. I honestly believe the government would be on a sticky wicket for taking anyone who smokes in public to court. They encouraged me to smoke for over 30 years and now they tell me I cant smoke in public. No evidence whatsoever that passive smoke has killed anyone and if Roy Castles family were so disgusted with the smokey clubs then why did they not give back all of his earnings in protest. Kings Cross fire was started by an idiot, surely we cannot all be judged by the actions of one person. That's like saying that everyone who drinks would do what Henry Paul did whilst driving Dianna. The government are well aware that their will be a few who stop smoking due to the ban, but they are fully aware that the majority will still happily keep shovelling tax money into the coffers whilst the government are seen to be doing their bit.
