I mean the worry for their health, going to the vets so very often and the heartache when they die. The fear of their dying.

I have 19 cats and 1 dog. There are ups and downs having them around but in most times they helped me a lot in lessening my stress. I've had a couple of experiences of dealing with dying as well as sick pets (eg. obesity, kidney, pneumonia, etc). It's a torture and heartbreaking but at the same time I have learned so much about their health issues. I now have gained more confidence in taking care of them. Cheers.

Sure, it's stressful when they're sick & it's devastating when we lose them. Routine care can seem a bit tedious @ times. Going to the vet is traumatic for nearly everyone & getting a sick beastie to take medication can be a real challenge. We've had a diabetic cat who needed insulin shots twice a day, rats who needed antibiotics, babies who needed supplemental feeding & a couple of unexpected litters (from females who were expecting when we adopted them). We've lost little ones from chronic illness, seniors who had blessed us for years with their presence, and a few sudden unexplained losses. No matter what species, no matter how old, their never with us long enough.
On the other paw, the love & companionship is absolutely priceless & interacting with these guys tends to reduce the stress found in other parts of life. There's so much joy in playing a frantic game of Fetch with a kitten, or giving a friendly rat a ride on my shoulder. Even watching the fish interact is a kind of loving meditation.

Natural things are inevitable in life and they need not stop you when could find the meaning of a companionship by your sheer love and affection you could shower upon a pet!
To keep a pet is like keeping a baby and one has to necessarily suffer many things as you have listed, but the best thing you need, the space, money, accepting people with you and above all the care and you would really enjoy the company! In fact the entire animal world needs the support, assistance and the help by all of us for their survival!

On the whole, I think that I get more from my pets than the stress they cause me. I keep both my cats indoors, so they are almost never ill. The only time I've had to have one put down in the last 10 years was due to cancer, and I knew that was the better thing for him, rather than his being in pain and unable to eat or drink.

Everyone does, it's the price to pay for having a close loving companion. And might I add - It's a very small price to pay!

Almost all owners get stressed over their pets many times! But it's all worth it to have a companion by your side.

except their own health problem ( and yes, fear of their death), I don't find any pet stressful anyway. Its because you have pets, you can get rid of lot of other stresses by just sitting beside them, and your cat's purr is a great tonic, believe me.
Love to your pets.

It's a risk and an investment just like any other relationship. Unfortunately, their life spans just aren't as long. But yes, I worry about them. It's like having two year olds that never grow up.

I just hate it when they pee in the bath. I don't worry about that other stuff, I just enjoy them my pets while I have them.
