For travel this year, you only need a passport if you fly. But if you have it and driving still use it as it is easier.

Some countries require 6 months. But not between Canada and the US. As long as it is valid while you are there you are fine. Check my link. I also did this in January. I flew home from Vegas the day before my passport expired. No problems at all, no difference than usual. I used it for 2 customs crossings and 2 airline boarding and no one even seemed to bother about it. Keep in mind, that was me going to Vegas with my passport valid for only another week.

Then it took 14 weeks to get a new one.

Are you travelling by air or by land? If you are using a plane to get to Seattle you need to have a passport and it has to be valid for at least 6 months from the time of your departure and arrival. Your travel agent should have advised you this prior to booking your ticket. But if you are driving you do not need a passport.

You should really be OK. Although at US border crossings you are at the mercy of the inspector who can deny you entrance on a whim. If they mention your passport expiration, you can show your return ticket as a measure of your intention to leave the US, as well as proof of residence in Canada (utility bills in your name) and employment (recent paycheck stubs). These indicate your willingness to return to Canada. It probably won't come to that, though. If you are crossing the border by car, you still only need a photo ID and proof of Canadian citizenship, which could even be an EXPIRED passport. Have fun.

I don't think you can board a plane.. You could drive to Canada though.. I was in the same boat in June.. I ended up flying to a border city.. Then having a friend from Canada pick me up.. I didn't even have to show my passport at the land border.. Just my DL

As long as you travel while it's valid, it's fine.
