Ok heres the deal; I applied for Navy OCS and was rejected for reasons unknown. I was rejected as a SWO and Supply Officer. Everyone was really suprised I did not get picked up, the only reason anyone could really think of as to why I was rejected was because of what kind of degree I had.
Just to give you an idea of what kind of record I have. I graduated Magna *** Laude with a 3.6, was president of law society, was an attorney in mock trial, was a senator for student congress, and continue to be a practicing black belt in Taekwondo. I also had great references from my college advisors, professionals, etc. The Navy is now completely out of the question, which leaves me with the Army, Marines, or Airforce. Please help!!

actually, as far as the Navy was concerned, your degree probably was a major cause for your not being picked up. They want High Tech degrees like Engineering and computer science. everything else on your resume was perfectly in line with what the Navy looks for..well rounded individuals.
Right now, your best shot is probably Army, they are less picky about what kind of background you have because you will not be using it much at all. The AF also wants High Tech Deghrees, and are downsizing, so they have less slots to fill overall. The Marines also have fewer slots to fill.

Talk to other recruiters. My best friends son just graduated College last may from OU and is a Lieutenant now in training, he's in the Army.
PS, shykai69, He's right, the young man I know has a teaching degree and hes going to be a Field Artillery officer. I once had a Lieutenant that was a Multi engine rated pilot with a degree from Embry Riddle, he was an Artillery officer.
PSS. Actualy bdbbdb, no he probably wouldn't get infantry, its hard field to get into for Officers, most of the infantry slots are taken up by Officers graduating from West point, The Citadel, VMI and schools like that.

Your skills learned in college will serve you well as an officer: we as officers always need to write fluently, and a knowledge of history is paramount for serving as a leader in today's military. Also, it takes discipline to finish the wide range of classes and not quit; this will serve you well as you will be required to complete a wide range of tasks. You will need to complete either ROTC or enlist and go to OCS in order to be an officer. The military also directly commissions a few officers every year who have specialized skills, but unless you are an expert in some area it is unlikely. Good luck! We need good people every year. Hope you will join us in service soon!

Your degree is probably not the issue. Mine is in history and I was fast-tracked for basic then Army OCS. I would look into this. The best people to talk to are recruiters, officer or enlisted it doesn't matter. They have their fingers on the pulse of EXACTLY what their service is looking for at any given moment. My background is almost identical to yours, Pres. Biology Club, Magna, Phi Beta Kappa. What the services are looking for is always leadership material in officers. Oh, by the way, I signed on enlisted (at E-5, because of college) and THEN pursued OCS. My branch is Military Police, Combat. So, unless you would like to serve in the Sandbox on a nearly permanent basis, I would consider another branch, maybe Quartermaster Corp. Best of Luck!

In my Army experience I have rarely seen were an officer actually uses his college degree with their work, with a few exceptions like the Doctors and Lawyers and other specialized career field. I have seen Officers with engineering degrees work as Military Policemen. You having a Political Science degree would probably help you as a Military Attache.

How old are you? If you had a degree in health care, engineering or science you would be gone by now.
Once you reach the age of 28 they become most pick out who they take.
Beside you could be put in charge of deck division.
Make you should look in to law school. A B.A in Political science is worhless on the outside and is not worth alot in the military.
