youre daughter [in law] is trying to make something of herself by working.
youre sitting on your ***

which will take an hour at the most
you should be ashamed =[

As long as you are safe to drive, just take them to school. When you get back home, you can go back to sleep, or just lie down and rest. If you DIL takes the day off, she will have a mark against her attendance, and possibly loose her job. If you volunteered, or agreed to the arrangement you need to hold your end up your side of the agreement. Maybe you should tell her she has a few weeks to find a new sitter, because it doesn't seem that you want to do this anymore.

If you already made the agreement, it`s not fair to back out of it now, but if you are sick, (not just tired), then it can`t be helped. You should phone her as soon as possible. Leaving it to just 20 minutes before you are supposed to pick them up seems a bit off to be honest. If you feel like you`re being taken for granted or something, then maybe you should tell your daughter that she needs to find some other solution.

Maybe get into bed - after shutting off the computer - and get some sleep. Even if you are not tired - being on the computer isn't going to get you to sleep faster. Go lay down - close your eyes, and don't count indangered animals - you will run out before you fall asleep! :) Ha ha! Just kidding.
Well - get some sleep - and if in the morning you feel as if you are not a safe driver - call her with enough time to let her get where she is going - adding on bringing the kids to school. There is no need telling her now - disturbing her from getting any sleep. Just because you cannot sleep doesn't mean she shouldn't.
Then offer to pick them up - and take them where they need to go.

Get off your bum and take the grandkids to school! You can sleep then! I stayed up all night on occasions(usually doing a mountain of ironing), but I had to make sure my eldest was ready for school and I had stay up for my two-year old! Then I had to work in the evening and deal with my hubby's sexual advances!

I understand that you're tired, but giving such a short notice may not fly well with her job depending on where she works.
If you need a break, mention this the next time you talk to her and offer to help find someone else who can watch the kids if she can't find anyone.

ASk yourself how you'd feel if your daughter lost her job (or promotion) through being unreliable? If driving is involved talk it over with your daughter and see if she thinks it's worth getting a taxi this once, otherwise do what you said you would and pick up the kids.

Cool. Can I use the excuse 'I've been up all night' to get a day off work? I didn't realise that ethics had slipped so much recently.

I suppose a lot depends on why you were up all night, and whether you are driving and if so, are you fit?
If you're OK, bite the bullet, it won't take long, after all, it's not like you're going to be having them all day. Is it?
