The top 4 best lures:

1. Plastic Worms, (I like Berkley Power Worms. Rigged Texas or Carolina.).

2. Jig's,( A "lead-headed" jig with a Curly-tailed plastic-grub body or "tube" probably catches more Small-Mouth Bass than any other lure!)

3. "Rapala-Type" lures,( More people fish Rapala's than God has whisker's!)

4. Spinnerbait's, ( Colorado, Willow-leaf, Indiana bladed spinnerbaits have probably won more professional Bass tournament's in the last 10 years than any other type of artificial bait!)

Please look through my past answer's for hint's & suggestion's. Also look through Exert-7's, Goldenfeather, Brandon's, Ingun, Sexy Bassfisherman, Eric, & Bass Fisherman's,(I know I'm forgetting a ton of other VERY knowledgable fishermen! Sorry!)

I use a 6 oz. Jitter bug that I have had for years with an 8 lb. test line. I fish early in the morning when the sun is just rising. Jitter bug is a top water lure that you can make to imitate a frog. Bass love to eat frogs. I also use a larger version with 12 lb test if I only want big bass and don't feel like catching the smaller fish. I have caught up to an 18 lb bass with it. The 3 oz. version is good for crappie with an 8 lb. test line.

Now what did I say to get two thumbs down? I told of what works for me in the morning when I fish for bass. The man asked for opinions and also said he fishes in the morning and evening. That is when bass are active up on the surface a lot. I have a feeling the people that gave me the thumbs down don't even know what a Jitterbug lure is. It happens to be an excellent lure that many people have used over many decades. All of the fancy worms and spinners are good in the late morning and afternoon, but in the early morning top water lures work best, because this is when bass are at the surface feeding as well as at night.

You know it is difficult to make suggestions about fishing. First off we are clueless to the kinds of fish areas you have. The best thing about fishing is it is fun. So why not test and explore. There is plenty of info online. Take the time to read some of it.

I would recommend you subscribe to one of the big fishing tackle dealers. Like Bass Pro Shops. They will send you a catalog and they have online stuff as well. Use this as a reference and guide.

Best bait for bass is either a worm (pumpkin and watermelon worm best) or bass colored jerk/crank baits because big bass eat smaller bass

If you want big trophy bass use live shiners

try a crankbait, choose a color best suited to the water clarity.
I find the best time for bass is morning and then at dusk.
