Use a swimming cap made for swimming, it needs to be tight so that water does not get in. If you don't have a cap, you can apply a conditioner to damp hair(then go swimming). Be sure to shampoo and condition after leaving the pool.

Soak your hair before going in - the chlorine can't penetrate. Another thing my stylist told me is to just use my regular conditioner as a "seal" after soaking the hair.

I always always wear a hat! And wash well when you get out of the pool with a chlorine removing shampoo (mind your eyes - its evil stuff) and a good dose of conditioner.
