Are they tough enough on citizens? Not tough enough? Tougher on the police than they are on citizens?

I've liked all the judges I've given testimony under.

Its really the DA anyways. They are the ones that decide if they will even prosecute an offender. If they can't win a case, they won't even file. I look at things form their viewpoint when I'm making arrests. If its shaky and theres not much solid evidence and I know the DA won't prosecute I won't make an arrest. I write a report. If the DA likes that report and the evidence they'll put a warrant out for the turd. The arrested offender would have bonded out 45 minutes after the arrest anyways.

As a UK Police Officerwho regularly attends Crown Court I can name 2 judges that I pray are sitting on my case.

Judges are massively out of touch with reality and have no idea of the lifestyles of the people I deal with on a daily basis. It's always good on the rare occasion I get one with common sense.

They are also massively massively out of touch with sentencing. Obviously they get guidelines from the government and with prisons full up they've been told not to jail people who would have got 5 years a couple of years ago............... But were Ito ask on here the sentencing people would give for someone who indecently assaulted a child I'm sure everyone would have him locked up for life. None of us want nonces on the street, yet judges give out some very strange sentences!

If I had my way I'd swap jobs between every judge and London Taxi drivers........ They seem to have the right idea on these things!

During my career in law enforcement, I dealt with many judges, and found that for the most part, they were truly trying to do the best they could in dealing with criminals. The problems they faced included DA's that either weren't willing to prosecute, or were too dense to do the job right, as well as the general overcrowding of the prison system. It is hard to sentence someone to a long prison term when the prisons are overcrowded and the prison authorities are screaming that sentences should be shorter. It's a "no-win" situation, and I believe they are doing the best they can.

The cops often feel they go through all the hard work to have everything dropped by a judge. Interestingly, the only one that listens in the process.

Depends on the judge and whether or not he or she is "on the take", a soft-hearted liberal "set 'em free--give them another (fifth or eighth) chance"....or if the judge is a "throw them (criminals) away" or "hang 'em high".

Judges are different....but still: there are the stereotypes out there, just like those named here. And it depends on the cop's personal character how he or she may feel about that particular judge.

Judges do what they do. The DA's are the lazy bastards who plead people out so they don't have to go to court and actually try a case.

There are good ones and bad ones, just like any other occupation or profession.

Very lenient and they have no idea what goes on out on the street.
