Hm. It must be personal preference for your cats. I have just the opposite experience with Maddie (Madeline). I've never seen her use her litter box. She waits until I leave. I guess it's like we're dating and she cannot "go" when I'm around. LOL.
I do have that issue with her food, though. She won't eat unless I'm in the kitchen with her. Perhaps she's showing me that she's a good eater. (?)

My cats do it to me in the morning while I'm cleaning their litter box. I'm trying to scoop the poop and have to stop to wait for them to finish and I have 3 cats so sometimes it takes me forever to finish. I don't know why they wait until the morning to do it in front of me but I'm glad I'm not the only one who has to endure it.

It's a gift that keeps on giving!! And yes they are happy to see you and it gets the juices going and so..... At least you know you're loved. All the best;~)

Probably they know that you are more likely to scoop it and then they will have a clean litterbox. Cats are intelligent creatures.

When you are gone they are probably busy listening for you coming back and thinking about you so they don't think about going until your back and they can relax.

I have never experienced this with any of my cats.
They may just get excited when you come home and it stimulates their bowels.
