I ask this because I've recently decided to try and give up sodas (for a variety of reasons, most of them to try and live healthier) as I used to drink a couple cans a day. I usually make a habit of looking at the nutrition facts section of food, and on a diet coke and a diet root beer can I saw it say 0 calories (great) and 0 carbs (also awesome)...but it doesn't even list sugar.

Should I assume that means no sugar also? I looked at the ingredients also, but...there are so many big words XD I passed 10th grade Chemistry with an A this year but still...gonna need that higher level I'm taking next year. I don't see any obvious sugary things like fructose, gluscose, or corn syrup...but still. I wanna make sure.

Any ideas? It should be a simple enough answer :) Merci!

all diet sodas use some sort of sugar substitute. usually maltodextrose, or malitol, some use nutra sweet, splenda is becoming popular in soft drinks. look for words that end in "ose" or "tol". They are your "sugars" or "sugar alcohols" which is why it says zero.
But no they don't contain actual sugar. This is why they are popular with diabetics. It's the answer to the question of why you may see fat people order an excessive amount of food and then order a diet soda. Many times they are diabetic. bien sur.

I used Crystal Light for many years until I found a Walmart brand which cost much less. It is their "Great Value" brand and comes in many flavors, Apple, Grape, Cherry, Cranberry, Lemonde, Pink Lemondate, Tea etc. There are 0 grams of sugar in an 8oz glass. It comes in little tubs and you mix one with 2 quarts of water and make just like Kool-Aid, which also has sugar-free products. I recently found "FULFILL" Brand Sugar Free, Vitamin Enhanced Fitness Drink with the same deal, little tubs. It is a little more expensive but my son and I take Tae Kwon Do and make it up that morning and then just fill water bottles with it for our evening lessons. It is a lot like an energy drink and has two flavors that I have found at Walmart, Kiwi-Strawberry and a Berry Mix. Again, there are 0 grams of sugar. These drinks are much better for everyone than diet soda anyhow as they are mostly water, which rehydrates, keeps your skin looking nicer and as far as I know does no damage to your stomach or other internal organs, which can happen overtime with soda. There is also a sugar free engergy drink, such as Red Bull, but that is also expensive. I am the only diabetic in our family, but my Mom, Brother and Brother in law all have it, and my Grandmother had it before she passed away. Hope this helps you with your project.

They may have no sugar and ) carbs, but all those chemicals are really just as bad for you, as is the artificial sweetner they use. If you are serious about living healthier I suggest you give up drinking sodas all together and drink more water.
