I have been thinking a lot lately. Origin of life, religion, God, this world.. you know there comes a time when a person needs to define them self and not go by there parents definition for them.. Anyway and so I was sitting and and my mom, brothers, and mom and dad were all in living room and generally we have small talk about religion or day to day stuff and I never talk about stuff I think but today I told them the Surat in Quran that says how God said we made life from water but it also says that Adam and Eve were born in heaven! Also about God's will and freedom of will or choice. My told me to stop thinking but is not it natural to think? Is not is human nature to want to know about universe! I know there might be some things we can't hope to understand but to switch off your brain?
I am confused! HELP

Because the issues you are pondering- are weighty ones- & your Mother doesn't want to see you confused or unhappy while considering them. It ALSO means- that maybe SHE has no answers for some of them either, and she doesn't want you to put her in the position of saying, "I don't know..." -or, "I don't care..." You're RIGHT, you CAN'T stop thinking about these things- & you're probably NOT going to be able to- settle them to your mind's ease. THEREFORE, you need to go OUT SIDE of your family- and seek the answers from those who've considerd them- also. -Like religious leaders, or teachers, or those who've written books on the subject- in you Library. The Answers you seek- are "out there..." All you need to do -is track them down. :) Good luck!

mom is right in some way, you are an intellectual, but too much diversified stuffs would put you out of focus and out of aim. Do 1 or 2 at a time so it won't be messed up or you'll end up not accomplishing anything.
That gary or others same as that, they are entitled to their own belief, just disregard them, people will realize that in the end, the truth shall prevail, and the wrong ones will be ashamed on their own wrongdoings.

More than likely it is because your mother never questions such things...this is not a negative statement. Either that or she has questioned it too much and never found the answer.
Basically, people believe what they need to believe on a level acceptable to what they can deal with; sometimes finding the answer to the Universe is too much for people to wrap their brain around.
I say keep thinking; just don't think out loud.

She's probably afraid of you growing up. I have an open minded dad that's OK with me researching different religions and that stuff, but sometimes I wish I had a closed minded one, just to know what it's like for people like you. Maybe you could try to sit down with your mom and try telling her that you are growing up and it's only natural to ponder on those things and that you two aren't always going to agree on things. Try to make her understand that just because you have a different opinion, 'you' has not changed. Your just discovering different parts of you.
Hope that helps. =)

I think that you should be encouraged to think and question your eternal beliefs. We are, after all, talking about YOUR eternal life. Shouldn't you research and seek truth that is vital to your eternal existence? Remember, no one can make up your mind for you. I would encourage you to pray and ask for guidance to the truth. You do have freedom of choice and free will, that is why it is up to you to conclude for yourself, what choice you will make. Don't you find that God saying we made life from water and saying Adam and Eve were born in Heaven contradictory? Read the Bible and read the Quaran, where do you find truth? NEVER switch off your brain and do what people, man, any human, tells you to do. SEEK GOD! You will find him! ASK GOD TO GUIDE YOU TO TRUTH!

gary g your a jackass. I think maybe the reason she doesn't' want you to think is because like the song once said "shove me in the shallow water before I get to deep" If you look too deep into beliefs and things of that nature you may lose them and become a agnostic. Life is easier when you keep it simple is what I'm guessing she's saying.

Dont stop thinking questioning your faith will only strengthen your beliefs reading other religious texts such as the Koran will help you better understand your beliefs and stance on moral issues what ever you do do not let your parents completely control your faith and beliefs thats all you really really have in this world so keep thinking and asking questions
God bless

Of course religious people always want you to stop asking questions. That's because the answers show their "faith" is nothing more than delusion.
For some reason I cannot post a link here so google "the apostate why I left Islam" for another woman's story.

You could find your answers by reading the books of some Muslim philosophers... ppl like Shariati or Elahi Ghomsheyi...
Shariati is dead... but Elahi Ghomsheyi is still alive... n he gives conferences from time to time (all over the world)...
You could also e-mail him...
BUT... some Muslims don't agree with these two ppl... n have banned his books and speeches that are sold...
I think they are very good... they present the material very nice and clear... n kind of answer your questions without going against Islam...
The books of Shariati have made me respect Islam far more than before...
AND the speeches of Elahi Ghomsheyi, that I have attended, have been very enjoyable and straight forward...

I think it's really great that you are trying to understand and know your religion you should definitely continue doing that your mom maybe told to stop thinking because she doesn't know a lot about her religion and was too embarrassed to admit that instead she just tried to make you shut up ....
