She meant he is extremely ugly. However, your grandmother is the ugly one - saying that to your brother was outrageously cruel and inappropriate.

That is just an expression. She was being funny. Sometimes when people are funny, there is some truth in it. Your Grandma was meaning he was not real good looking or what he did was not nice. Down right ugly. Some people are not good looking outside and some are ugly to the bone by their attitudes and deeds.
Beauty is in the eyes of the beholder and when people get old, they think they can just say things out loud and don't worry about hurting others. That certainly was not nice of your grandmother to say unless she was being funny.

She was using a nasty old expression, meaning she's really mad at him for something so she's name calling. My grandma used to tell me similar things, and that I was possessed of the devil. These are cruel words to say to anyone, particularly to a young, impressionable person. I hope your brother does not grow up with the idea that he is ugly and sinful (evil). Your grannie needs to think before she talks. Not all old folks act wisely, believe me.

They say, "respect your elders." But respect has to be earned. Your grandma wasn't earning it when she said that.
Like so many, you are experiencing sights and sounds that will have strong impacts. You will probably be asking that for the rest of your life. Just remember that your grandmother was wrong. And if your brother resents you for what she said, remember he is wrong.

She could have said it after he teased her about something. I don't believe any nice grandmother would say this to her grandson and mean it in a bad way. Or perhaps he did something she didn't approve of and she meant what he just said or did was ugly.

He must have been really shown his a** bad attitude or just being really hateful. What was he doing at the time that she said it? I am not saying that it makes it right, I would have a fit If my mom said that about my kids. I would ask her what she meant if i were you. Have a good night^_^

What she really meant was, "I reallly hate myself and have low self esteem, so I am going to call out what I see as my grandson's faults, so the attention is taken off of me for a change."

If my grandmother said that, it would mean that he had behaved very very badly. She was not into external appearance, she was one of those it is all in your heart people.

She was very very wrong in saying that to her grandson. I don't care what she meant by it. It was cruel and unnecessary.
