Interesting little study you got going on there =) Main stone Size: 1 carat Total diamond weight in ring: 1.5 carats (main and side stones) Cut: Princess stone, excellent. Color: E (almost colorless) Clarity: VVS1 (almost flawless) Metal: Platinum Cost: $6,500 City/State: NYC suburb, NY Age: I'm 25, my fiance is 26 (24/25 at time of engagement) You should also ask people to add the metal, that will alter the cost of the ring, I added mine. I'll check back to see what others say, maybe you can come up with an interesting consensus!

I wouldn't even worry about the average...just avoid the super-small and the ridiculously big.
It is better to base the size on what looks good to you, and also take into account the price and even your lifestyle. I work in a chemical laboratory, so I wanted a diamond that was a reasonable size, but small enough that it stayed close to my finger. The last thing I wanted was a prong getting caught on a glove or something and me losing my stone! I also have thin fingers, so something small still looks quite nice.
Since I got a small-ish center stone (1/2 carat), we got a ring with lots of other stones (a 1/3 carat on either side and then 3 more even smaller ones on either side) so my ring SPARKLES like wild, but isn't a big honking costume jewelry ring.
Go with what you love and with what works for you. Congrats and best of luck! Happy hunting!

I think average is between a 1/2 carat and 1 carat center stone.
But what is average where you live can be different. Many people also consider the ring to be a symbol of status. Certain men would be embarrassed to give a small ring to their wife to be, and some women would be embarrassed to wear it.
Your engagement ring should be bigger than the diamond earring studs you would wear.

It depends on the style you want, whether you want a solitaire or a ring with more stones, but average is between 1/2 ct to 1 1/2 cts. I didn't want a diamond because I dont like them very much. I thought I wanted lavender colored tanzanite, but the more I looked for rings the more I kept finding blue topaz I liked. One day while I was out shopping of at all places K-mart I found the most beautiful 3 stone blue topaz with diamond accents and knew it was the ring for me. Turned out it was on sale for 70% off so it cost less than $100. I saw the exact same ring for 3 times the original cost in a jewelry store, so if you shop jewelry stores expect to pay more. It really isnt the size that matters as much as the style you like. Just start looking online and you'll come across the ring for you. Congrats.

it all depends on the style of ring you would like. do you want a semi mount with diamonds in the band? or would you like a tiffany-style ring {just one big stone}
for engagement rings, the average carat size would be right around a half to three quarters of a carat {depending on size}. also, clarity is a very important factor. ask your boyfriend what is most important to him; cut, color, or clarity.
and you can always go browsing at stored to get an idea :0)

There really isn't an average, but it seems most have 1/3 to 1/2 t.c.w. No matter the size, YOU will know it's an engagement ring and its symbolism.
Let your bf choose it for you - that makes it special, then he can choose something which he thinks suits you, and then will feel comfortable spending what he can comfortably afford, without you knowing the cost.

Well I just got engaged Wednesday and what I thought I was getting and what I got are two different things but I LOVE my ring. It is a white gold band, 1.5 carats. I thought that I was getting a 3/4 carat but I was surprised. Just got advice, I for sure would not go over 1.5 carats. Things will just get too hard to do. Have fun and good luck.

Average would be anything between 1/2 to 1 ct. I don't care what anyone else says...these 1.5+ rings almost always look gaudy and out of place on the woman's hand, they are impracicle to work in (it gets caught on everything) and the stones often are lower quality, just so the diamond can be big...meaning your stone is much less pretty, even though it is big.

my engagement ring is a 1carat princess cut diamond solitaire. it's the perfect size...not too big, but not too small. 1 carat is about the average size.
