Keep the air conditioning on and fashion something that will hold food and water, Let the dogs out on a leash several times during the trip. Remember if it is 59 degrees outside the temperature in a car and raise to extreme heat. Never leave them in the car alone. As a matter of fact, a law was recently passed or will be shortly the prohibits animals being left in a car unattended. Also dogs now must be tethered in the back of pick-up trucks so they can't jump or fall out over the side.

Well always keep the air conditioning on. Keep food and water back their 24/7. Bring a cooler. Got to shoprite, walmart, hannafords,etc.. and buy the 24 pack of water bottles, keep them in the cooler so every stop and refill their water bowls. Also put some old pillows and blankets down in the back so when they are ready for a nap they can take while being comfortable. But every stop you make put the dogs on a leash and let them walk around for about ten minutes, (this is for both so they can get used to the weather and so they can go potty. Unless they use wee wee pads.) At the end of your trip put them in complete air conditioning.

well your best bet would be to leave the dogs at a doggy sitter or find a vet clinic to take them for the duration of your trip. if you must take them they should be in the car no crates cuz most dogs do not like that. they should have plenty of water and cool fresh air. the a/c would be best also have some thing for the dogs to do like chew toys cuz they get bored just like us. and while you are driving stop at least once an hour and let them out to do there bisness and to get some exercize this will kepp them happy during the ride.
good luck hope this helps

you didn't say where the dogs would be? In the back seat of a car/van.. or in kennels in the back of a pick-up or trailer? If they are in the vehicle with you the a/c will keep them comfortable. If they are in kennels elsewhere, make sure they have plenty of fresh water and you can freeze water bottles (leave a little room for expansion) and either put them under the dog bed if there is one, or wrap them in a towel and lay them in with the dogs. This works really well, as the ice melts you can use it to water the dogs. When the bottles are warm or empty just refill with cold water at a rest stop.

I got a remote started installed on my car so that I could leave me car running with the air conditioner on while I ran into the bathroom.
Make sure they have plenty of water, - If you cover the windows when you stop it helps keep the car from heating up as fast - but this time of yer in the Northern Hemisphere hey should no be left in a car that is not being air conditioned.
Do you have a friend traveling with you so that you can take turns staying with the dog while other runs in someplace -eat in the car.

use the a/c.. if you have no a/c, leave the windows cracked to allow ventalation. Offer water or ice chips as much as possible. Stop every few hours to take a break.. many rest stops have dog walking areas.. and shaded areas.
DO NOT leave your dogs unattended in the car! A car can heat up very quickly in warm weather. It can only take a matter of minutes for it to heat up enough to kill a dog. Hopefully you are travelling with someone else so you can take turns with potty breaks. If you must stop and eat, do fast food and eat in the car.
a friend of mine also sells neck coolers that you can get for your dogs
www.championdogclothes.com
I think she has them listed under "accessories" she makes them for people too if you ask.. you just soak it in cold water, it swells up and stays cool for a while.

When we take road trips with the dogs we have the ac on continually. We take the spare keys so if we stop to eat we leave the vehicle running with the ac on and crack the windows and always park where the sun does not shine into the cab. You can also get water bottles for dogs to carry with you so you can give them plenty of water. We also make lots of stops and take them out for some exercise. They always arrive where we are going happy.

You defiantly want to make sure your ac is on. That said, remember that dogs cool off from their tummy's. Some damp cool towels for them to lay on would be good. You could also purchase battery operated clip on fans to have running in the back. I would also make sure they have plenty to drink and make frequent stops to let them out. Under no circumstances leave them in the vehicle while you stop and go in somewhere.

You can keep towels or washcloths on hand and then wet them with cool water and put on the dogs' faces and ears, they have a lot of blood vessels in their ears. If you cool down those, then the rest of the body cools faster, but not so fast as to cause shock.

Before the trip freeze some containers in plastic containers as empty milk jugs or something equivalent.
I have even bought dry ice at Wall-Mart for a long trip.
And of course air conditioner if you have one.
Have a Nice trip!
