I am an enlisted soldier in the Army National guard (11B). I am in the ROTC SMP program as well. I was wondering if anyone could give me advice on how hard airborne training is. Do they smoke you a lot, how often do you run (etc..)? Also, how should I go about getting an airborne slot? Should I go through my unit or ROTC. How do I get started?

Airborne was just one of many hoops I had to jump through during the pipeline. After the indoc, it didn't seem to be all that hard, but we were already in excellent shape when we entered Airborne. You run every day and we double-time marched in formation. No idea how you get a slot, it was required for me.

It is a 3 week course which has a lot of physical exercise.

The 1st week you learn and run a lot, the second week you practice, using the towers, and the third week you jump!

It is difficult, but doesn't seem so bad now!

Regarding the rest! I assume you apply for a unit that is airborne! I really don't know!

It sucks, back in the day when I was in, we went airborne for the jump pay. Pay is high enough now, you don't need the 300 dollars a month (almost three times what we got). stay on the ground

Is that because the marines don't like girls? Must be why they joined the navy

Every aspect of it is physical. If you can run fast, you'll be fine. We ran 7.5 minute miles for five miles. You're going to have to compete with other cadets for a slot.

You run every day.

The 82nd, a minimal of my battalion, has distinctly pleasurable coaching. that's the coaching element, each thing you do related to the coaching, ie rules, trans, chow, camp set up, and different little issues they'll make relatively retarded for no reason what so ever. additionally to bdozen, the 82nd has an prolonged heritage than the only hundred and first. The one hundred and first may well be extra regarded for Band of Brothers, however the 82nd continues to be a distinguishable unit. They have been the 1st Airborne branch interior the army, in addition they had extra jumps in WWII than the only hundred and first. The 82nd jumped into Sicily, Salerno, Normandy, and Holland in WWII. The one hundred and first basically had Normandy and Holland. the two contraptions did their section in WWII, they deserve equivalent popularity for their sacrifices. One isn't traditionally "extra perfect" than the different.
