This happened in my town when police approached the kid for jumping the fence to the skate park.

I live in a small desert town where its too hot to skate the park in the day anyway. these kids only have like a 2 hour window where its not blistering hot. I just don' t understand do police forget ever being kids?

Ok lets see a kid is skating at a park after it is closed? Cop walks up and tells kid to stop.
Kid might run? kid might just leave?
JOB DONE! Why would there need to be tazer?

I bet that 9 year-old represented a terrible risk to an adult cop!
Send the cop to jail where he belongs! That is assault and battery!

I think we need more information about the situation before we judge whether or not the officer's actions were justifiable. As a police officer myself I can say that deploying a Taser against a 9 yr old would not be my first choice. However, I have been involved in incidents where the use of a Taser would have been justifiable. In those cases the juvenile has forcefully resisted our attempts gain control of them. To gain control of the juvenile we needed to use a great deal of force and we were lucky that they were not injured during the incident. Had we decided to deploy a Taser, the risk of injuring the juvenile would have been greatly reduced since we would not have to fight with them. Furthermore, there is also a lessened risk of the officers getting injured as well.
I'm not saying that the officer did not act inappropriately or break the law, I am simply saying that more information is needed.

Unless the kid had a weapon, I don't think there could possibly have been cause for escalation of force. If the officer couldn't subdue a 9-yr old without a taser, he/she really needs to work out a little more.
The tasers are sometimes abused because of their "non-lethal" nature, but more and more studies are showing that they may have leave trace damage to the nervous system.

i think that it sounds somewhat odd that a cop would need to do that to a nine year old child . however i know that kids can sometimes grow fast and that many of the city kids are in gangs so they might have weapons .
i think the cop may have had good reason to do this but that an investigation of such a thing should take place.

Criminals thrive on the indulgence of society's understanding.
dah dah dun, dun, dun, another goth druggie skater punk bites the dust. dah dah dun, dun, dun.........
Why wasn't this kid in school? or home studying? Now they have.......ooooh SKATEBOARDS. Provide a link pls.
If the drugged up skater punk resisted arrest and the police took him down physically then obviously the parents would have filed a lawsuit because of the "evil brutal cops" but a taser works around all that. Good work cops, and if there is a complaint there should be an investigation, but always err on the side of the police.

I think he used excessive force. I would report the officer because at least it would be on his file if something like that should happen again. The only reason it would be appropriate would be if the officer believed he or the public were in imminent danger.

organize a petition to boycott the park at all times when the officers ask you why tell them that if everyone stops using the park the city will convert it to low income housing. Then let the chicken shitt cop try and tazer a real criminal, he'll get the sh-t kicked out of him. lol

What is with people not wanting people to take responsibility for their actions. This kid will continue to disobey the rules if someone doesn't give him a good ole fashioned hwhoopin' That is part of the reason why so many kids are messed up now, noone would discipline them.

If you are not the cop then you do not know the situation so you have no ability to judge anything an officer does.
