I truly WANT to believe in the goodness of the people in our world, but when this is what your book teaches, how can we not be afraid of you?

Qur'an:9:5 "Fight and kill the disbelievers wherever you find them, take them captive, harass them, lie in wait and ambush them using every stratagem of war."

Qur'an:8:59 "The infidels should not think that they can get away from us. Prepare against them whatever arms and weaponry you can muster so that you may TERRORIZE them. They are your enemy and Allah's enemy."

Qur'an 47:33 "Believers, obey Allah, and obey the Messenger. Do not falter; become faint-hearted, or weak-kneed, crying for peace."

Qur'an:2:193 "Fight them until there is no more Fitnah (disbelief) and religion is only for Allah. But if they cease/desist, let there be no hostility except against infidel disbelievers."

I am not religious at all, but I cannot see how ANYONE could believe in a book that teaches them to hate...

Help me understand why.......

I KNOW THE BIBLE HAS HATRED IN IT TOO. This is why I do not believe in religion of ANY kind. But, I have not heard of any Christians bombing airports in the past year - have you??

Instead of forming opinions about Muslims based on the Cliff Notes version of the Koran, why don't you go out and actually talk to Muslims. Get to know them as the human beings they are.

-Does Islam help the thought non secular ideals and practices do no longer make somebody a follower of God as antagonistic to a how they stay their existence? In Islam, each and every little thing you do on your existence is a factor of your faith. There are useful policies for each factor of your existence. consequently for us, the non secular ideals and practices are no longer cut loose existence ideals and practices. however the respond to your question could be a sure. using fact for God to settle for you and forgive your sins, you will be able to desire to no longer purely have faith in Him, yet tutor this conception of yours via performing good, in the direction of your self, in the direction of individuals (His creatures), and maximum appropriate an exemplary existence. the two are inseparable. -How might desire to one examine/use the Qur'an (e.g. can one take it actually and understand its message)? sure the Qur'an is frequently literal. you will be able to desire to envision it with a remark tho. the reason being that each and each verse interior the Qur'an has been sent to Prophet Muhammad using some thing that had got here approximately to him. it particularly is Gods words of advice and preparation that have been sent the two till now or after an adventure occurred. using fact the Qur'an would not comprise something yet Gods words, you will be able to desire to correctly known which verse pronounced which adventure as a manner to understand its importance. -what's the reasoning/importance of non secular practices inclusive of praying 5 cases and day? There are too many to point yet shall we suffice to assert right here in precis: a million. 5 on a regular basis (touch) Salat prayers are distinctive from the different prayer youve come for the time of. they seem to be a ceremonial adventure that leaves guy and God on my own with one yet another. the biggest explanation for Salat is remembrance of the author, and giving using fact of Him for being alive. Being grateful is emphasised lots in Islam, ungratefulness to guy, ungratefulness to God is seen using fact the reason at the back of an unhappy and unsuccessful existence. 2. Islam additionally makes the biggest tennets of the religion closed for human changing. except prayer is executed in a undeniable way, it may substitute with the aid of the years and probably lose its meaning. Many worship practices have policies in Islam, that inhibit the tainting of guy and his ego.

It reads like there are a bunch of people on this planet who are unable to think independently without an instructional manual namely the Quran and the Bible. Unfortunately, both are instructing the annihilation of the other.

I think some of these references are used when the person is harrassed/attacked first. This Quran just like any other religious books does not promote hate, it simply says to defend oneself. I think you are reading out of context.
Please refer back to actual history, without that you will be confused.
For example, think about the crusades. Does the bible tell those people to start that war? I highly doubt it.
Reading one line and assuming is a wrong way to go about this.

Absolutely, You got that right! The verses you quoted are only very few of the many. ...... and people want me/us unbelievers believe Islam is the religion of peace, tolerance and mercy?!?

It is holy jihad the central pillar of Islamic teachings - its goal is to take over the world under ONE religion - Islam. Any and all means are allowed. Where do people think all that violence comes from? It is preached in all the mosques.

The "holy" Quran has plenty of heavenly rewards for the martyrs, suicide bombers and other vermin..

There are the 72 beautiful brown-eyed virgins every martyr is given who dies in the name of Allah or for his cause. Since these guys are so brainwashed, indoctrinated...... they believe every single word in there as being divine truth. For the gays there are beautiful boy servants.

The spoils of war and conquest promised are even more enticing. Read Robert Spencer - "The Truth about Mohamed" Founder of the world's most intolerant religion.

He got some nice praise for telling the truth..... "May Allah rip out his spine from his back and split hid brains in two, and then put them back, and then do it over and over again."

That tells how tolerant Islam really is...... and how impotent Allah is in his rage. Criticism of Islam is called blasphemy and subject to severe punishment. Leaving Islam is punishable by death.

There is another good book out there "Leaving Islam" Apostates speak out. by Ibn Warraq. Everything in there comes from the horses mouth..... from EX Muslims who saw the light and defected. Further - google Wafa Sultan, a doctor and EX Muslim, with her famous Al Jazeera interview. Like Salman Rushdie she has also been threatened with death for criticising, leaving Islam.

You can't take these verses out of context. The Quran has no context and its the eternal word of god. The Quran commands muslims to fight the disbelievers until the whole world submits to Allah.

Have you ever read the Bible?

If a man still prophesies, his parents, father and mother, shall say to him, "You shall not live, because you have spoken a lie in the name of the Lord." When he prophesies, his parents, father and mother, shall thrust him through. (Zechariah 13:3 NAB)

Anyone arrogant enough to reject the verdict of the judge or of the priest who represents the LORD your God must be put to death. Such evil must be purged from Israel. (Deuteronomy 17:12 NLT)

Whoever strikes his father or mother shall be put to death. (Exodus 21:15 NAB)

They entered into a covenant to seek the Lord, the God of their fathers, with all their heart and soul; and everyone who would not seek the Lord, the God of Israel, was to be put to death, whether small or great, whether man or woman. (2 Chronicles 15:12-13 NAB)

I could go on and on and on...
