My cat, Liz, who is 10 and has raised 2 litters and been an ongoing foster mother, will answer this:

Each cat is an individual and our attitude may seem very egotistical, to humans, but we aren't. We are a species of cool, calmn, jive types, who have inspired the likes of The Bird (Parker), Duke Ellington, Bessie Smith, Paul Newman and Martin Van Buren. We accept our lives and if something goes done the tubes, so to speak, we are able to compensate with little, if any complaints. This attitude is known amongst all felines, from our big cat relatives down to the domesticated cats as catitistical.

They are driven by something,lol.

At night, when they get crazy and start playing, I swear they are possessed. Sometimes its like they can understand what you are saying, you say the word VET too much, or MEDICINE and suddenly there isnt a cat in sight when its time to go!

They rule this house, we humans just live in it,lol.

I don't think so. Btw, is your nickname Dr. Egan or Dregan as one word? Just wondering?

No I don't believe that cats are ego-driven; they just know that they are masters of their universe. With arrogance and haughtiness that cats have, that's not ego mania...that's just knowing that they are the best and are far superior to most any other species.

Dogs come when you call. Cats have answering machines and may or may not get back to you. I don't call that ego, I call it common sense on the part of the cat because we humans are so easy to train {g}

Nah....though their aloof lone-hunter nature would make it seem so...like when they fall of the back of the couch, and then saunter off like they meant to do that.

I like the saying that dogs were given to us as companions because everyone needs someone who thinks they're the center of the universe, and cats were given to us to remind us we're Not. Funny, but often true.

Kick a dog and it will come and sit in your lap and look lovingly at you kick a cat and it will seek revenge and crap in your shoe. Yes cats rule the world! I have to go I think mine is listening.

Do you mean, do cats act on their own behalf. Very definitely yes. They are definitely not altruistic except perhaps when I am feeling blue, they come over and nozzle me.

They seem like they are those self-centered little fur balls. I have two and they call the shots around this house

Yes, because you think that you own them and they end up owning you and you are really at their beck and call.
