good question. however from the Bible it does not just say you have to believe him. it also says we must obey him and do his commands. so many will say we are not saved by works. this is a huge misconseption. for the Bible never says that. it says we are not saved by works alone. we have to have faith as well. but still have works. if you believe you will obey. if you believe in the Bible and it says you need to be baptized you will get baptized.

You're logic works. You can not love God supremely, if you do not have an understanding of Him and His nature, and acquiring this is the work of a lifetime. Here, "acquiring," is actually incorrect, because one can never acquire a spiritual quality through human will. As you come to know Him and start to demonstrate truth, you also love Him. So, keep on the narrow path and everything will work out.

"'Teacher, which is the greatest commandment in the Law?' Jesus replied: ' "Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind." This is the first and greatest commandment.'"
I think you're misinterpreting the meaning of love or something. You can learn to love Jesus by realizing that he is a friend. He calls us his friends in John 15:13-16. Love God as a father because He is your Father. Love the Holy Spirit because it is your Counselor and Comforter.

Our Lord tells us in His word that we must love the Lord, our God, with all our heart, might, and soul. What's acceptable to me isn't the point. What is acceptable to God is.
I do understand that you may not feel that you love God at this point, yet you would like to. And it is true, we can't force ourselves to feel that love. Most of us do not fall in love with people right away either. But the more you get to know someone, and seeing how pleasant and wonderful that person is, you begin to love them.
Have you tried to get to know God? Do you talk to Him? Do you read His word? Do you meet with others to talk about Him and to worship Him? The more you draw close to God and read His word, the more your love will grow.
If you are talking about a god who isn't the one true God whose Son is Jesus, then you may as well love Peter Pan for all that god is going to be to you. I don't mean to sound harsh, but it is true. There is but one God, and only He can save you.

When I read your question, I see that you are personalizing God, like an omnipotent being. I don't see God that way.
Try thinking of God as energy. God is Love is only one description, and that is an allegorical statement. We are all part of that energy. It is in and of everything. It is all goodness. Some call it the cosmic consciousness.
Love the concept, what God stands for; truth, equality, friendship, trust, helping your brother, etc. instead of trying to imagine a Deity whom you love.

Some Christians begin their warfare as an intellectual experience, but as their faith grows, and self dies, God manifests Himself more fully in their lives.
Thus, Christianity is a growing experience until we attain the fullness of God's goodness and blessings in our lives.
Hang in there. If you are not as devout as others. Just foster that relationship through study, prayer, Christian fellowship, and ministering to the needs of others.
You can build faith by cracking a Bible code, too. Select http://abiblecode.tripod.com

You just need a good dose of the Psalms ~
Psalm 100:1 Make a joyful noise unto the LORD, all ye lands.
2 Serve the LORD with gladness: come before his presence with singing.
3 Know ye that the LORD he is God: it is he that hath made us, and not we ourselves; we are his people, and the sheep of his pasture.
4 Enter into his gates with thanksgiving, and into his courts with praise: be thankful unto him, and bless his name.
5 For the LORD is good; his mercy is everlasting; and his truth endureth to all generations.

If you realy know Him you cannot stop from falling in Love with Him. Knowing Him and believing in Him are two different things. Satan knows God, but does not love or respect Him. Thats why Satan was cast out from heaven, curiosly Satan and God still talk to each other.

believing in god is obviously not enough to be approved by him as you have basically stated. if it was then like you say there would be no need to love him. you could learn to love god if you learned about him throught the bible. thats true of anyone that becomes your friend. it takes time and knowledge of what that person is like.

I think it's OK. I always felt when we will really love Him, is when this earthly life is over and we receive what's waiting on the other side. It's not easy to appreciate it until we actually experience it. "he who is forgiven much, loves much."
