Of course!

Sociology in general is a very important field. And comparative religion, which helps students understand how people believe around the world, not only makes students more informed world citizens, it helps them understand their own cultures better!

YES! If you look around the world, many of the 50 or so wars being fought today are being fought over misunderstanding of the religions of others. Comparative religions help spread the understanding that all religions have some unique, important insight on the nature of the universe. For example, many people don't realize how much Islam has in common with Christianity. We should all be looking for points of similarities not differences.

Hi. You are going to get heated debate on this one, lol. This is a very personal issue. I believe it does for it describes our culture, our roots, our history, and even our laws, ethics, and morals. It explains a lot of the world turmoils, thus is at the very core of our essence. There are worse subjects - my husband would argue what is the use of algebra?

yes,I believe it does.....
........I think that in order to understand others, that we need to first know where they are coming from, also,it is important from a historical standpoint also,as a lot of important information about culture and societies past, have come mainly from the documentation of there religion.

On a darker note, unfortunately a lot of serial murderers often use symbolism from religion, and by having knowledge of different religions often helps investigators in the pursuit of these criminals.

Yes, I believe it does.

Understanding what prompts someone to act or speak as they do eliminates lots of misunderstandings.

Plus, as not2fancy4ya had mentioned, it is advantageous for law enforcement to have that info.

Peace be with you :)
