if you leave a litter box out in a place that is easy to find, your cat will naturally use that as a bathroom.

One of the wonderful things that Mother Nature does for us is to have cat mothers train their babies to use the litter box! Cats are very fastidious and always cover their feces in the wild. Cat mothers take the process one step farther by teaching their little ones to use the litter box by the time they are weaned. So when you adopt or buy your kitten, chances are very good that it is already toilet trained.
When the kitten starts to walk on its own and has begun to feed itself, you can start introducing the litter box. Buy a box with a low lip so that the youngster can scramble over the top when it’s time to go. At first, you will probably need to place the kitten in the litter box a couple of time and scratch the litter with your finger. Do this immediately after feeding your kitten. You will be surprised how quickly your kitten will learn that the litter box is his toilet.
If your kitten is having trouble grasping this concept, you might have to either cage or confine him to a small room. The cage theory works best because if there is just enough room for a bed, water, food, and the litter box, your kitten will be forced to use the box. As confused as they can be at first, cats have strong instincts. When forced with a choice, they will realize quickly which spaces are for sleeping and eating and which ones are not.

I actually just got a new kitten yesterday too! She is 8 weeks old as well, was not litter trained. I got a small litter box and when I brought her home I put her in the box and scratched her paws around a little. Kittens have a natural instinct to bury, so showing her that she could cover up the mess she does helped. I kept her in the bathroom all night with her box, food, and toys, and thismorning she went in the litter box! =) It was wonderful!

Provide a newspaper area and a litter box. Since the box will probably be one for an adult cat, provide a brick or other method so the kitten can climb in when it wants to and have enough litter to make it easy to climb out. When you see the kitten squating to go, pick it up and put it in the litter. If it goes elsewhere, place its nose near the pee or poop then set it in the litter. When it uses the litter and climbs out, pick it up or pet it and praise it as a good kitten.

Congrats on your need kitten. First off its a new home for the kitten so to start off you need a confined small area for him with the litter box. Every so often put him in it he will be using it faster than you know. Remember where you put the box that is where he will always want to go so try to pick an area that the box will stay there in the future.

I saw on TV that they have a litter box that is the shape of a toilet. What you do is put a litter box over the toilet and see what your cat would do.

Cats will not usually climb up on a toilet to go, plus they cannot reach the handle.

Git a plastic box and fill it with kitty litter.

Just keep placing the cat on it and it will git the idea.

Take its paws and scratch the kitty litter with them.

most of these answers are good ones, but are you talking actualy toilet training, or house breaking in the kitty litter, if it's the latter, that's easy, they take to kitty litter like fish to water, just help them scratch the litter, and push their rears down.
