What constitutes a "Major U.S. City" ? Not examples, definition.?

I'm guessing this is determined by population... if so what is the minimum population of a "major U.S. city"?

The top 10 US cities have over 1,000,000 people each.
New York city is the largest with over 8 million.
Los Angeles is second with just over 2 million.
You didn't ask, but Toronto Canada has 4 million.
