There are only possible two legal ways for you to find out:
• If he received a judgment in Tax Court, you can obtain copies of court records.
• A tax lien would appear on his credit report and if you had a "permissable purpose" under the Fair Credit Reporting Act for obtaining his credit report, you could find out that way. However, the FCRA does not allow one individual to get the credit report of another private individual.

YOU don't..... but if the person is famous, someone will find out and print it all over the news or blast it over the TV because the media LOVES to "TATTLE" on everyone. As far as YOU finding anything out---it's NONE OF YOUR BUSINESS who has gotten in IRS hot water....if it's a government official---it will be splashed in the media, if it's a neighbor, doesn't HE have the same right to privacy as YOU do? Would you want YOUR troubles or indiscretions SPLASHED all over the place? I am really sick and tired of the people in this country who can't WAIT to NAIL SOMEONES BUTT to a cross!!!

All you can do is ask the person. This information is private so the IRS would not deliver it and it they do they will more likely get in trouble by no respect of the privacy rules.

Ya can't. Social security numbers and tax returns are protected by the Privacy Act of 1964. If you got his name and his number turn him in to IRS. They will take it from there.

Unless they were prosecuted, you wouldn't unless they choose to tell you about it. Tax returns and all tax issues are treated as confidential information.
