Yes, chiggers love belly buttons. Listen to Jess. Fingernail polish (suggestion - clear) will smother the chigger. As for the itch, Benadryl gel works fairly well. Plain old rubbing alcohol is good for drying out the area and allowing it to heal. I am currently trying an experiment (it's in the early stages) that uses Mederma. It's rather expensive, but so far it has stopped the itch faster and for WAY longer than my two favorites mentioned above.

See if you can stretch the skin side to side enough to see the site, and put some fingernail lotion on and kill the chigger. It's just very very tender skin there. Stupid chiggers.
